This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

"New move, new move, Sauron," Larsa said, rocking on his heels. "It should be easy enough, right Sauron? Right? I don't really understand how this works, but I think you just..." The man's voice only trailed off into the distance. The Larvitar at his side rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. Sometimes, he wasn't sure why he put up with this human.
Sauron huffed, puffing his little chest out. He stared the practice dummy down. Larsa wasn't even sure what sort of a shape the doll had been meant to emulate. It was a little round pillow with some straw spilling out of its side. Not very well-made, but it would suit its purpose. The Larvitar breathed deeply, glaring angrily at the practice dummy in hopes that simply staring the thing down would generate dark energy. When nothing happened, the Larvitar strained harder, sweat forming on his green forehead.
"Wow Sauron. Can't even try for a little Dark Pulse. What are you doing," Larsa said to the Pokémon.
Suddenly, the Larvitar loosed a perfect Dark Pulse in his trainer's direction.
Larsa felt like he was level grinding in a video game. This was getting ridiculous. Still, he had to earn his next badge somehow. That was why he was back here in the first place. He glanced down at the Archen at his heels, the little prehistoric Pokémon bobbing from one clawed talon to the next.
"Time to get serious, Samwise," he said.
But the Archen was already off chewing on a practice dummy.
Well, as long as he was doing something, he supposed that it was fair game. At least he was working his jaws. It could be worse. He could be chewing on Larsa.
This was routine by now. On the other hand, Larsa was noticing that the Pokémon who showed up the most frequently here were Samwise, Sauron, and Boromir. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing though. If he was going to face Esme, the three of them were the Pokémon who would stand the greatest chances against the woman's ghostly Pokémon.
It was time for round tow then. Larsa felt as if a new move was learned each time he walked through the training center's doors. Not that it was a bad thing. In fact, it was a very good thing.
Thankfully, Boromir was a little more civil about the way that he treated his trainer. Granted, the Gyarados was also one of the older Pokémon on Larsa's team. "We're going to go get her soon," Larsa said with a clenched fist. "It'll be the second gym fight! And... you're going to be there too, yeah."
The Gyarados raised a brow. Why was that? Was it because he wasn't a "useless, flailing Magikarp" anymore? The memories of the battle arena came rushing back to him, all the times that he was stomped on and kicked aside by opposing trainers. The Pokémon's face contorted into an expression of rage as he swung his tail into the wall, enough force for it to resemble a tidal wave.
Pippin was something of a new addition to Larsa's party. Still, the Electrike was something of a force to be reckoned with. The only thing that was certain about the creature was that he was one hell of a feisty Pokémon. Alternatively, the Pokémon's great enthusiasm to training was to the extreme, and that was something that Larsa really appreciated. Also, the electric Pokémon hadn't tried to take a bite out of him yet, so that was good news too.
"Hey, Pippin," Larsa said. "I know that we don't really know each other very well yet, but I wanted to just say that I appreciate all the hard work you're putting in. You know, I think you even deserve a little break. What do you say? I brought some water along. You're probably really, really thirsty. Oh! Also, don't push yourself. That'd be pretty awful if you collapsed. Are there paramedics here? I haven't seen any so far. Yeah, that's why you should be real careful, hear?"
The only thing that ran through the Electrike's head was wow my trainer talks a lot.
