This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

It was raining cats and dogs, and it was easy to say that Erik hated cats and dogs in this sense. Well, at least, Erik just hated cats - which could be why he and his Skitty only occasionally got along. Usually, however, it was when the two of them needed to stop bickering.
That was why he traveled alone at the moment, his poke'mon put safely in their 'balls as he took the shelter of a nearby cafe. It was packed from the others that didn't want to stay in the rain, instead taking what looked like the only open seat, which happened to be by J Delacroix.
the rain showed no sign of stopping, and J kept his patience, leaving his food untouched on the table as he watched the rain fall from the edges of the roof. more people shuffled into the café to get away from the rain; he figured if the crowd grew larger, he'd just leave for some place else.
sadly, he couldn't -- someone had decided to strike up a conversation with him. he turned to face the person, and shook his head in response.
Three hours seemed like an incredibly long time. But, he didn't quite see any other choice when it was raining like a hurricane out there. He had to say, though, he absolutely hated the rain. Then again, there wasn't much choice in the matter any longer. "So you've just been sitting there for three hours?"
He looked around the table, as if searching for a game that the other was keeping himself company with. When he found none, he let the confusion be obvious on his face. "So what did you do exactly?" How someone could manage to just sit there and do nothing for three hours, Erik didn't know.
J's gaze fell on the ice-cold coffee and untouched croissants. "yeah," he said. he felt as if he'd been growing roots all this while, come to think of it. "during those three hours?"
... good question. J wasn't sure, and he wasn't sure what to say, either. he'd just been sitting and time passed, really quickly? that was what happened, really --
"earlier i met this researcher. she inspected my trubbish ... she hadn't seen one, and ... yeah."
A frown had crossed his face as Erik started to relax more in the seat. "Sounds boring, 'mate." The croissants that were sitting on the table looked like they hadn't been touched, and the coffee looked like it hadn't been touched since it was ordered. It was strange, Erik had to admit, and he got the sinking feeling that something was wrong.
Either that or J just didn't like croissants and coffee.
At the mentioning of a Trubbish, Erik perked up. "Oh, you have a Trubbish?" Whatever frown that managed to stay on his face disappeared as it turned into a grin. "Are you willing to trade, because I'd love to have one."
"yeah, i do," J said, shifting slightly in his seat. the trainer looked at erik, slightly amused; it was rare enough to have someone like trubbish, much less trade for it -- it was a trade that he was willing to make, though.
"i'd trade you, i don't mind."
he glanced at the coffee, and wondered if he should attempt to drink it, or order something else. he turned to erik. "feel like sharing a tray of biscuits or something?"
Now, someone actually owning a Trubbish was a rare sight. No one wanted the poor creature, and maybe that was why Erik felt generally sorry for them. He wanted to capture them all and hug them all and call them precious babies.
"I have a Tropius that I'm not sure what to do with, if you want it. I'm a little hesitant in giving it away but I'm sure you can do better with it than I could." A chuckle, Erik found very quickly that he had no idea what to do with enormous poke'mon.
J gestured for the waitress and ordered some biscuits and hot chocolate, as well as what beverage erik decided to other or otherwise. when she left, he turned back to the erik and slid a pokéball across the table.
"a tropius sounds fine. it's one of those massive hoenn fruit-birds, isn't it?" said J, "done. i'll take care of it well -- this trubbish here enjoys singing and dancing for some reason." he shook the pokéball slightly. "... i don't know why."
their order arrived, and the waitress left. outside, it was still raining.
The Trubbish ball was placed on the table, and Erik fished around in his bag for the Tropius one. After pulling it out, he placed it on the table and set the Trubbish one in the same place that the Tropius's was. "You seem like a good guy, so I'm pretty sure I can give you him with a clear conscience."
A waitress came by, and Erik ordered a coffee, relaxing back in his chair. "Since it's still raining outside, do you have any idea on how to kill some time?" There was no way in hell that he'd be caught out there while it was pouring cats and dogs anyway.
caught between smiling and giving a decent response to erik's words, J opted for the latter. "where did you get the tropius?" in hindsight, it probably wasn't very well-phrased, but at least it was of some sort of conversational value. (it probably warranted an answer before silence would take over again, unless -
- wish granted.) J snacked on a biscuit, thinking. "not really," he admitted. he had, after all, been sitting here for three whole hours, killing time. in that timeframe, he hadn't done much, besides sitting at the table, doing nothing. "can't quite do board games with only two," said the trainer, drawing erik's attention to a nearby table that was playing a game of monopoly.
Reaching out to grab a biscuit, Erik took a bite of it. It seemed like J was going to start with civil conversation, and Erik wasn't one to turn it completely down. "You know the really popular egg shop?" Of course he did, who didn't at this day and age? "One of the nicer breeders there gave me him. Poor guy was expensive."
It seemed like the other was completely lost on what to do, too, and Erik himself wasn't sure. Board games were rather hard to play with just two people - but maybe a card game wouldn't be so hard. "We could always just crash a game of monopoly or something. I doubt anyone would turn down two bored trainers." He chuckled, looking over at the monopoly table nearby before pulling up a chair, hoping J would follow suit. "Mind if we join?"
J wouldn't have crashed the game of monopoly on his own, but with erik, he figured it was alright. the trainers made way for them to sit, and J took his game piece. he got the battleship, clad in steel from a magnemite. he suspected the other pieces to be similarly made from other parts of pokémon; the reveal that the board was made from a combination of phanpy leather and snover bark said as much.
J glanced at erik. "my luck isn't the best." he had been saddled with paying rent from a chance card on his first roll.
