This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.

The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

In retrospect, perhaps battling the scourge by herself was not hte smartest idea Thalia had ever had. Which was why after making sure all her Pokemon would live at the center, she'd tracked down the only person she knew in Nerio and asked him for help, if he was willing.
He didn't think it was being a hero, but he'd said yes. Which made going back out there easier. Not easy, but easier.
there was no reason to turn down a request for help, especially if the other person had elicited it. had it been someone by the road fighting against scourge, he would not have helped; it was the fact that he was asked to lend a hand that made all the difference for the trainer, and he had found himself nodding in agreement after retrieving his pokéballs from the nurse at the pokémon center.
he'd eventually realized that thalia had been fighting the scourge ever since she arrived in nerio (presumably, but he'd also seen a familiar head of pink at the casino), and had come out of it alive. she'd had a taste of the plague itself; he wondered what it was like, but judging from the events at the pokémon center, J knew.
it wasn't about being a hero. it was about doing the job he was supposed to do as an eos trainer, as someone who had a debt to pay.
Was there friendship amongst the scourge? Probably not as we know it, but the donphan and jynx were a working partnership at the least. They looked out for each other. They shared meals. They made ribald jokes about possibly uses for the dismembered body parts of trainers that'd failed to defeat them.
They were, perhaps, friends.
Currently, they were working on an artistic masterpiece: a triptych mosaic of gnawed bones. ...And also livers, because the donphan refused to eat them. Something about the texture.
The donphan splattered gore across the bone mosaic like Jackson Pollack in a blindfold.
Thalia didn't think she'd ever get used to how--messy the Scourge was. But she'd learned her lesson. This wasn't a trainer battle; this wasn't even a wild pokemon battle. It wasn't one v one with rules and a Pokemon Center a block away. She had to remember that. (She didn't think she could forget.)
Eevee, kadabra, vulpix, togepi, dratini. They still felt distant, unreal. She didn't look at them. She looked at the two Scourge pokemon. Bit her lip.
"Let's try this again," she said, aiming for a flippant tone and landing somewhere in the range of intense anxiety. Intense anxiety kind of sounds like a faint squeak.

J watched the scourge pokémon approach and released his team of pokémon. he did not expect an easy fight, and judging from the way they even looked at thalia and him, they were ready to kill.
he sent out his aron, skarmory, mawile, ralts, charmeleon and onix. all vaccinated, but none of them up to the power levels of the opponent pokémon.
"okay, go for the donphan."

The donphan dodged the leer, snorting at the dratini's attempt to cow it. He was then hit by the following: quick attack, psybeam, charm, water pulse, earth power, sand attack, brick break, confusion, dragon pulse, and bind. Well, this sucked.
The jynx ignored the confuse ray, and she was hit by the following: water pulse, ember, earth power, growl, and fake tears. My, how touching those tears were! A fantastic performance! She stood in awe.
The jynx moved first out of the two. She ice punched the dratini once, then ice punched it again for good measure. She assessed the rest of the team, and she used captivate on the kadabra.
The donphan had a hard time seeing through the sand in his eyes, but he kicked up mud--most of it bloody-himself, aiming a mud-slap twice at the vulpix. Then he rumbled a terribly growl.

The kadabra met the other pyschic's attack with a furrowed brow and a slight twitch of his hand as the captivate crashed against his mental defenses, and his defenses held. Barely. Ignoring the sheen of sweat that had started to run down his narrow face, he continued his assault on the donphan.
Dratini dodged the first powder snow and ran right into the second, taking it straight to face. Ouch, bro.
The exact same thing happened to vulpix because I'm not coming up with anything new.

the onix was hit by the powder snow as it had by other attacks in the past. it was cold though. it shivered from the cold. it was getting pretty crazy down there.
the rest of J's pokémon attacked the donphan again.
The donphan was hit by everything except the tail whip, which I did stare curiously at before disregarding.
The donphan's movements slowed, sluggish--tired, pained. It grunted something to the jynx, who spat and barked orders at him. Immediately, he seemed to shrug off his discomfort, and he drew in breath for a rattling growl and wheeled about for another spray of mud.
The jynx was hit by everything except the aeroblast, which she ignored. She winced at the sound of the growl though. The sound of her singing was far superior, anyway.
She conjured up another two rounds of powdered snow.

dust stomped about, casting another earth power, as wing dodged the growl attack and went in for an assurance on the donphan. despite being crippled by the growl, dredge made sure its previous moves paid off. J swept a potion over dredge's rocky body, which was quickly neutralized by the jynx's powder snow.

J watched the donphan fall. this was a surprisingly good turn of events, and with the jynx crippled to high hell, they might actually stand a chance against it.
"okay everyone, swarm the jynx. do everything you can, i suppose."
Paralyzed and confused and still in delusions that its donphan was alive, the jynx was hit with quick attack, zen headbutt, dragon rage, mud bomb, ember, earth power, swift, brick break, confusion, crunch, and bind.
