This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Another round! Emily returned to the arena a few days after her first battle to hopefully win this time. Although she lost last time, she'd made a friend in the process and Pree had gained some knowledge about battling.
Once on the arena field, she released Bulb from his pokeball. "Okay Bulb, we're gonna win this time!" she said, and the Bulbasaur nodded his head.
All they had to do now was wait for their opponent.
kazfiel was a new addition to J's team. after retrieving it from daycare, J had brought it to the mysterious arena in the dream world. the charmeleon was breathing small embers of flame on its palms before rubbing them together. a fight was what J promised, and a fight it would get.
"no fire moves," J told the pokémon as he noticed the opponent's pokémon of choice. a bulbasaur would be weak to ember, but J felt that it wouldn't be fair to have a battle in such a manner. "hey," he greeted emily as he stepped into the challenger's box, while kazfiel entered the battlegrounds and eyed the bulbasaur.
Darn, a fire type! Emily watched with wide eyes as her opponent appeared on the scene. A fire type against her grass type? This was going to be even worse than her last battle! The trainer wiped sweat from her forehead as the male greeted her, and she returned the nod.
"Hello! I'm Emily and this is Bulb. Nice to meet you!" Although she was happy to meet them, it was hard to be cheery when she knew they had already lost this battle. 'No, I can't think like that. We can still win!' Emily thought as Bulb readied himself.
"Okay, here I go! Bulb, use Sleep Powder and then Tackle!"
"J and kazfiel," repled the trainer as his charmeleon nodded in response. the lizard might have been a fire-type, but it was still new to battling. pushing over other smaller, weaker pokémon in daycare was not a battle.
out of natural response, kazfiel's first move was to exhale fire at the pokémon's incoming attack, but J stopped it. the lizard instead took the brunt of the tackle and sleep powder. as it fell over, it tried to scratch the bulbasaur, albeit groggily.
(idk why sleeping pokémon can still use one move) DANDELION
Weird. Why did J stop the Ember attack? Emily didn't know what was going on, but she didn't want to question it. Maybe trainer and pokemon weren't ready for that move yet? Oh well. She'd have to ask after the battle.
A smile lit up the girl's face as both attacks hit. But she cringed as the Scratch attack hit, sending Bulb back a few paces. "That's okay Bulb! Use Poison Powder and another Tackle!"
the charmeleon could apparently sleepwalk and dodged the poisonpowder, but it was struck by the tackle attack. sleepily, it fell on its side. kazfiel scratched its face idly as it snoozed for a bit.
J remained silent. he had seen worse, he told himself, he had seen much worse than this. (he forced his mind to reenact the battle between his aron, mawile and a magikarp.)
They might actually win this thing! Emily's smile returned as Bulb's attack made contact. She couldn't help but giggle at the Charmeleon sleeping on the field. "He's really cute!" she called out to J, trying to cheer him up.
But the battle needed a winner. "Okay Bulb, let's go with Leech Seed and Magical Leaf!"
cute was never a choice word for J to describe kazfiel. lazy would be more like it, but that word was specially reserved for wing, his skarmory. in any case, he had yet to find a word to properly describe the charmeleon.
"i suppose," J agreed, reluctantly. he watched as the charmeleon was encased in vines and leaves. it didn't suffer much damage, but it was effectively ensnared by the moves. somehow or rather, the charmeleon struggled, before trying to bite at the vines to free itself.
Tackle was the only move that would be truly effective on the fire type. Grass moves would barely hurt it thanks to their type differences. Emily smiled toward J, even though he seemed somewhat pensive.
Bulb yowled when the Charmeleon's teeth cut into his vines. "It's okay! Use Poison Powder and Tackle again!"
J nodded at emily, somewhat encouraging. he had no idea what to tell the other person in a battle. never did, never will. he preferred to focus on his pokémon, because giving orders usually resolved most conversation in a fight.
but with kazfiel asleep and sort of doing its own thing, J was forced to speak. "how long have you been a trainer?" he asked emily, but his eyes were still on the wobbling charmeleon. kazfiel's eyes sprang away, and J exhaled. finally.
"kazfiel, dodge the poisonpowder." the charmeleon did as it was told, before going for the bulbasaur -- denied. the bulbasaur rammed harshly into kazfiel, and before J could say anything else, the charmeleon had retaliated with dragon pulse, a furious sphere of energy washing over the field to attack the plant.
How long had she been a trainer? Emily had to think about that for a second. "About six years, give or take. I wanted to finish the Hoenn league but family issues stopped me." She wanted to finish her story and ask J about his training, but gasped when the fire type retaliated from the tackle with a dragon pulse.
"DODGE!" Emily screamed, and Bulb barely moved out of the way of the flame. "Whew. Okay now use Poison Powder and Tackle again!" It was the only combination that seemed effective.
dodged dragon pulse! used poison powder and tackle!
"six? -- sorry," whatever attempt at striking up conversation was quickly waved aside by J in the light of kazfiel's sudden outburst. he glanced at the charmeleon, which snapped at the bulbasaur angrily. "sorry about that."
kazfiel felt nothing to be sorry about, and instead rampaged through the poisonpowder and tackle to attempt a crunch on the bulb pokémon.
Bulb was hit by the Crunch, which sent him flying. Emily gasped and called out to the Bulbasaur as it stood up on shaking legs. "Hang in there! I know we can win this! I believe in you!" she called out and Bulb nodded. "Now, once again! Let's use Sleep Powder and Tackle!"
the poison and sleep effects both swarmed kazfiel's mind, and as it fell to the ground once again, the bulbasaur rushed in with a tackle that effectively ended the battle. kazfiel was shaking where it was sleeping, and had no intention of fighting back.
J did not want to fight back, either. he turned to emily, nodding. "good job," he said as enthusiastically as someone like him could muster. it was, after all, words he said at the end of every match, regardless of whether he won or lost. the charmeleon returned to its pokéball, J gave his opponent a small wave before leaving the arena.
