This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

GRAND OPENING !

Athena had found herself a metal circlet that she now wore as a crown. She declared herself captain of the station. She'd also found a plastic stick that she declared was a scepter, and now she was also queen of the station. She declared Neo her king, which Neo supposed she was alright with.
Athena marched about, now with a tarp cape thrown over her shoulders, and Neo followed her, on the look-out for a wild pokemon attack.
The Pichu was on an adventure, exploring the very depths of the place that he called home. Even if he grew up in the general area, there were certain areas that he was told to never visit. For example, the Moonlit Station was one of them, and while he had no intentions on going against his mother's wishes, the curiosity all but killing him.
In the distance, he could see a tall figure, and something that looked a bit too disfigured to be a poke'mon. He made his way over, more curious with what the figures were rather than whether it was a smart idea on advancing up to them.
<Greetings, peon!> Athena said, waving her plastic stick back and forth imperiously in her game of make-believe. <How art thou and thine kingdom this fine evening?>
Athena approached the pichu with her head held high. <Come, Sir Neo! We must speak to the good citizen. I should be one with my people! Give the kind pichu food and alms.>
"Uh," Neo said. She looked in her bag and then to the pichu. She produced a berry from Ceres Forest. "You want a berry?"
He'd seen some pretty weird things before, but the Pichu was certain that this topped everything. While he was certain that common sense told him to high-tail it out of there because these two seemed to be the exact nuts that he was warned about, he couldn't help but stick around with his curiosity piqued at.
> The kingdom is fine, my queen. < A stab in the dark of what she had deemed herself in, considering she was walking around with a scepter and a crown. He gave a little bow when the two approached him, feeling humbled that two of such highly lookd upon kingdom dweller would pay attention to him. The human offered him a berry, which he took and held in his little paws as he looked between the Riolu and the girl. > What brought you two down to the station? <
Athena positively glowed at being called queen. Considering her talent for aura, Neo worried that perhaps the glowing wasn't just happiness and might be... something else.
Neo had no clue what the pichu said. Aura was handy for that at least, even if its questionable effects on reality always put Neo a bit on edge.
<We're exploring! Discovering the great unknown!>
Okay, now that wasn't quite true. "She wanted to come out and play." Athena coughed pointedly. "Er, her majesty wanted to come out and play."
<Would you like to join us, young pichu? I could knight you! You could be a knight! Sir Pichu! C'mon, it'll be fun, we're going to go to this biiii~g lake of evil monsters next. And we're gonna KICK ASS.>
He could practically feel the glow coming off of the Riolu after he addressed her as a queen, and it seemed that his guess had been spot on. Though, he wasn't sure what they were planning on doing with him - but it was comforting to know that they weren't going to behead him. He tilted his head at her response, becoming ever more curious.
> That sounds like fun! < Though, when the much taller person spoke, he angled his head up to listen. If they weren't exploring, then what else could they possibly be doing? At the mentioning of being knighted, the Pichu practically skipped for joy. > Oh I owuld love to, Your Highness! We will kick all of the evil monster's asses. < Speaking like that felt weird, but exciting at the same time.
"It'll be dangerous," Neo cut in, still not entirely sure what the pichu was saying, but it was obvious enough that the pichu was a-okay with waltzing out of the dream world to die at scourge hands.
<And exciting!> Athena added, as if dangerous was a plus. She turned to Neo to ask, <How do I knight someone?>
Neo considered not answering, because this was all very, very bad, and surely the pichu's mother was going to be concerned. But... she remembered being seven, reading books about knights and ladies, kings and queens, and victories over evil. She sighed. As long as she was a competent battler... there was no reason she couldn't bring the pichu back after a while. And she was competent, wasn't she?
"Tap your scepter on his head. Then state his new rank and give him his oaths. If he accepts, he's bound to your service."
<Awesome!> Athena dinked her plastic stick lightly on the pichu's forehead. <Then I dub thee, Ser Pichu, first knight of the... um, of the Moonlit Order. As I am your queen and sovereign, I task thee with the defense of the region and all worlds, may our enemies tremble before us. Do you, Ser Pichu, accept this task?>
> Danger is my middle name. < He squeaked, puffing out his chest as he planted his paws on his hips.
He looked between Neo and Athena, watching them go back and forth on how to knight someone. Though, it seemed like Neo was hesitating, as she ran through her options. While his mother was going to be concerned, he knew that when he'd walk back home and tell her of all the great adventures that he had she'd be happy again. Until then, she'd probably be a worried mess over her sudden disappearance of her son but really he should have listened more.
Straightening up suddenly, he felt the plastic stick tap his head. > I do, Your Highness. < Bowing suddenly, he came back up with a huge grin on his face. > Where do we go first, then? I know of a really cool river where a bunch of shinx like to laze around! They're fun to play tricks on. <
<Ser Danger Pichu,> Athena agreed. It was a good name, the best name! If only she had something cooler than Queen Athena.
Neo, on the other hand, thought Danger Pichu was the worst name--albeit kinda catchy. It sounded like a Saturday morning cartoon.
<Well, eventually we have to go to the real world to defeat evil! There's a lake fuuuu~ll of mean nasty things, and it's up to the Moonlit Order to save the region! But right now we should totally go check out these shinx!>
Having missed half the conversation, Neo had no clue what was going on. "Wait, what shinx? ...You know what? Whatever."
Neo sighed and resigned herself to following her pokemon off to whatever adventure she'd go on next.
>It has a nice ring to it!< He squeaked, something acute to a mouse-like grin crossing over his face. The Pichu nearly bounced in place when Athena was explaining what the Moonlit Order's destiny was to be. He had felt a calling ( or was it just his imagination? ) when he first learned of what the girl and her riolu's mission was to be. However hard it was, he was ready to take on the challenge.
>I can't wait! We'll take the lake, flip it upside down, and beat the shit out of anything that comes out alive.< Or, at least, that's what the Pichu thought would happen. He had no idea that in the real world there were bloodthirsty poke'mon just waiting to tear him from limb to limb. He had no idea about the things that were waiting for him the moment he was dragged from the dream world.
After nodding, the Pichu turned on his hind leg and started walking over to where the "watering hole" was - where the Shinx tended to hang out. >This way~<
<Totally! We'll become the Moonlit Order, Knights of the Lake! Oh, yeah!>
Neo looked from pichu to Athena, then back to the pichu. Aura only let her in on one half of the conversation, and as Athena started to march off after the pichu, Neo decided half of the conversation was nowhere near enough of a conversation.
"Where are we going?" she asked, as if inquiring after the price of corn. "Are you sure this isn't a trap?"
<Sir Pichu would never lead us into a trap,> Athena declared, aghast at the very thought.
"Well don't mind me if I hang onto another pokeball just in case."
The Pichu paid the researcher no mind, he was more focused on the Riolu anyway. Athena was her trusty queen, and now she was supposed to be led by Ser Danger Pichu to the wateringhole of the shinx. It was his new destiny, his new calling in what seemed to be the short life of a poke'mon in the Kohaku days.
Though, he couldn't help but eavesdrop a little as he strutted on ahead, listening to how the researched wasn't entirely sure if the Pichu was good new or not. Though, it seemed that his queen had faith him him ( as she should have - he was her trusty knight, after all ), and he felt a smile rise to his face. Maybe his mother was wrong in her teachings, maybe there really were good people out there that wanted to make it a better things. For some reason, the Pichu wasn't entirely sure that his mother knew what she was talking about when it came down to it - where was her proof, anyway? She was just judging on what she'd heard of, after all.
>Not much farther!< He let out a chuckle, pointing an excited arm to where it looked like some Shinx and Luxray were bathing in the sun, a few playing in the water. >They're harmless, so long as you don't provoke them. The Luxray are kind of protective, though.<
...Those are a lot of shinx, Neo thought, and her grip tightened on a pokeball to a pokemon that could actually fight for shit. A lot for a freshly hatched riolu to handle, anyway. While she'd already drawn the opinion that Ser Pichu was dumb as a doornail, she still suspected the pichu was worth more in battle than Athena would be. That counted for something.
Athena gasped a little when she saw a particularly rugged luxray, her eyes turning huge and a flush going to her cheeks. It had a very chiseled jawline.
"Athena, you're human-like. It's field. It's not meant to be," Neo said, raining on her parade.
<But-->
"Not meant to be." Also, more importantly, you're like a week old, Neo didn't add.
<I want to talk to them--all of them--anyway! We can play! Bring the berries! Ser Pichu, attend!>
Neo was going to run out of berries. All the same, she followed Athena as she strode towards the waterfront.
The Pichu pretended not to hear the dispute between the two of them about one of the Luxrays. To be quite frank, he wasn't entirely sure how he felt towards any of the Shinx or evolutions nearby, except for the slight uncaring feeling he harvested as he drifted towards the center of the watering hole.
When he heard Athena say his name, he stopped, stiffended and saluted. >Yes Ma'am!< Though, he was soon stopped in his tracks when he saw a Shinx approaching, going to nudge the riolu. The Shinx stopped in front of them, eying them over for a moment before narrowing his eyes with distaste. >Why are you here? And why is there a human?< The feline-like poke'mon seemed to snarl at the mentioning of a human, casting a glance up at her to prove a point of some kind.
Neo was already on alert when the shinx sounded suspicious of them--suspicious of Neo, specifically. Athena began, <This human is-->
"I am human-like, asshole," Neo deadpanned. "I have a deformity and a hearing problem and was raised amongst humans. Don't be so insensitive. Please only speak to me through my aura translator. Pokemon speech is difficult for me."
Athena looked at Neo as if she'd grown a second head. She glanced at pichu to see if he had an opinion, and then shrugged.
<Yup!> Athena agreed, albeit after a bit too long of a delay for it to be natural. <Orphaned at birth and raised in a human village, very tragic. Don't mind her! We're on a tour of the Dream World! Seeing the sights, smelling the sounds, hearing the scents~ I'm Queen Athena, and this is my knight Ser Pichu.>
