This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Thalia made a show of examining the shelves, and then leaned up on tip-toe to reach her own packet of bitter roots.
"i think you've inspired me hone my surrealistic techniques," she said. "I doubt my pokemon will be very grateful, but it might come in handy some day. You never know."
"maybe if we the trainers enjoy it, they will too. who knows," J said, before paying for both their items and even bought thalia some ginseng candies. (actually, he'd wanted to try those too. just didn't have the chance before.)
J took a candy from the tin, and popped it into his mouth as well. it wasn't as shockingly refreshing as the bitter powder had been, but he could see why it was popular in the shop. the ginseng candies weren't bad at all; sweet to serve its purpose as candy, herb-ish enough for the ginseng taste to show.
"Thank you," Thalia said, popping another candy in her mouth to replace the one she'd just swallowed before putting her tin away as well. "As pleasant and informative as this little shopping trip has been, however, do you have any plans in Decima, or are you moving on? I have to admit, that while his methods are unorthodox, Melchio is certainly effective."
"i could feasibly stay," J said, recalling the typing most of his pokémon boasted. he had a full steel-type team; he could survive the toxic grounds and move through decima fairly easily, but he wasn't too sure about surviving the fumes he would inhale above ground.
"no steel types," thalia sighed. "which means moving on for me. i'm thinking about maybe going back to bellona, though. it feels. i dunno, wrong, that i just left it. it's been nice blazing forward and all, but i don't want to be like irene."
"i can go with you," J said, glancing at thalia. he'd fought alongside her, after all. maybe it wasn't so bad to go back and start clearing places out now that he was stronger. "if you'd like."
"I don't want to hold you back," Thalia said quietly. "I mean, if you've got some next big adventure planned, forging forward--Bellona isn't going to be as fun as last time, I have a feeling."
"i've reached decima. there's nothing but peace ahead and it's not going to be much different from the rest."
J retrieved his tin of candy and ate one of it, the candy knocking against his teeth as he considered their prospects of freeing bellona hills. "maybe it won't be. but i won't know until i see it for myself."
Thalia shrugged. Good enough answer, she supposed. "Okay then," she said. "Time to turn right back around, I guess. My feet hurt, ugh. I need to get a flying type pokemon, have it haul me around."
