This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

So here he was in Proserpina, pokedex in hand. He was looking for pokemon to study, but he didn't want to just go up to someone and say 'hey can I look at your pokemon' because that would probably be weird and Cole wasn't really fond of people anyway. But maybe some trainer would see the random researcher walking around and feel sorry enough for him so he could get a look at their pokemon.
Deino walked beside him on a leash. Since the poor pokemon was blind, it was the only way Cole could keep him near while he worked. It would be horrible if the dragon type wandered off on his own when Cole was researching.
the prehistoric pokémon was fresh off the high of a battle. it sliced the air confidently, its jaws open and ready to snap up anything in its way. the aerodactyl was an impressive sight to behold, but a terror on the battlefield, as J had just learnt. but alas, it was horribly weak to everything.
it wasn't a part of his main teams, so J let it be. it soon spotted a deino, though, and figuring that it was blind, aeon dove towards the dragon-type --
then J recalled it, and promptly apologized to the other person. "sorry."
As they walked along, Deino could sense something ferocious in the area. He stopped to growl at thin air, and Cole too stopped as the leash jerked back while they walked. "What's wrong?" he asked, only to turn around to see a big ass dragon flying toward them. Without thinking Cole grabbed the Deino into his arms to shield him from the attacker, but looked up when no attack came.
"What the--" He mouthed, seeing a male in the place of the dragon type. Cole put the Deino back on the ground and stared at the newcomer. "That thing was yours?"
"yeah," said J amidst a disappearing frame of red light. he assumed that the deino was cole's, and that aeon had just attempted to attack it like any wild pokémon. it made sense for the aerodactyl, however. it had never fought anything other than trainers so far.
Cole just shrugged, as if it wasn't a big deal. But really, how did one come across one of those things? Oh well. It would be interesting to record however.
"I'm Cole, a researcher." he began, showing the dex to the male. "Deino's on a leash because he can't see."
J noticed the pokédex. so far this would be the fifth researcher he had encountered in the kohaku region. "J," said the trainer. he figured it went without saying that he was a trainer. he nodded at the deino.
it was definitely the first time he'd seen a dragon kept on a leash. J half-expected it to wriggle loose or get away from it through some means. "i see."
A man of few words. Cole was starting to like this guy already. Deino made a weird gurgling noise, but it was normal so the pink-haired male just ignored it.
"How did you come across the Aerodactyl, if I may ask?" Dragon types were his favorite, after all. And maybe he could get himself one of those amazing beasts.
J had to remind himself that cole was a new researcher, not a veteran. it probably was best to not talk about the scourge just yet. (he'd gotten an old amber by exchanging a dead hadean pokémon at the mors bulwark.)
"it was a fossil," J said, opting for half the truth. he then remembered the fact that hespera was miles away from proserpina; it would take cole quite some time to get to that city. "an old amber."
Right. He should have remembered that. Cole just nodded, making a note of that in his dex. "Would you mind letting me look at it? It'd be a great entry for my research."
At this the Deino growled, as if the thought of that monster coming back out would be a threat to all of humanity. But Cole once again ignored the little thing, tugging on his leash to shut him up.
"i guess," J said, retrieving aeon's pokéball and releasing the aerodactyl. the creature emerged, circling the air again before spotting the deino. this time, it had more self-restraint and held itself back, staring at the deino.
it couldn't resist the urge to snap its jaws once, twice at the deino, though.
aeon flapped its wings before coming to rest near J, perching rather awkwardly on the ground. it wasn't meant to be on land, obviously, but the aerodactyl had gotten tired of just staying put in midair.
Cole nodded, watching the Aerodactyl land on the ground. It looked kinda funny but he didn't say anything about it, lest the thing try to eat him or Deino again. "Yes. Thanks."
"That's the first entry I've gotten. Minus Deino." The pink-haired male mused, letting out a sigh. "I kinda suck at this researcher thing."
"That's the part I hate." Cole muttered, running his free hand through his bright pink hair. "I never wanted to be a researcher; it was my father's dying wish." Deino started growling at something he thought he heard but once again Cole jerked on the leash so he'd stop.
"But you seem like a pretty good trainer." He mused, shrugging his shoulders. Any guy with a fossilized pokemon was alright in his book.
