This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

J decided to take another look around the area while he was still in the forest. he glanced around at his surroundings and thought that it was a great difference from the rowdy tavern. it felt more peaceful around, though less calming than in the amber glade. his eevee bounced by his side, energetic despite being a newborn pokémon.
"chrome," he called for the eevee, and it turned around to look at him. it tilted its head, and chirped brightly. it returned to J's side, content to stay by its trainer.
The only good thing about the forest was the trees shielding the sunlight. It made it considerably cooler, and that was the only thing Erik found that he was thankful for. Otherwise, he was just couldn't shake the creepy feeling that the forest had. As far as he was concerned, there were only two people - him and Aalekh, his trubbish.
Or, at least, that was what he convinced himself until he heard the sound of a trainer calling his poke'mon. The green poke'mon's ears perked, looking in the direction of where the noise came from before jumping from Erik's arms and running off, tan arms flapping in the wind. Heaving a sigh, Erik trotted after it - until the same poke'mon seemed to be on a collision course with the Eevee.
chrome was bowled over by a trubbish, and the eevee yelped in surprise. it didn't take long for J to notice the other trainer and his pokémon -- familiar faces, especially the trubbish. chrome picked itself up and stared at the other pokémon, frowning slightly.
"oh, hey," J said, calm as usual. it was as if aalekh had never run into chrome in the first place; the eevee, on the other hand, had already darted behind J for safety.
The moment the Trubbish hit the unfamiliar figure, it rolled forwards in a barrel roll before looking up dazed. Erik, on the other hand, gave an apologetic look to the Eevee, doubting that the poke'mon would have even understood in the first place. Almost immediately, his attention seemed to flicker to the familiar face - and by familiar he meant the face that beat him in monopoly.
"J, right?" Erik flashed a quick smile, ignoring the poke'mon below completely. "It's good to see a familiar face in here. You don't happen to know the way out, do you?" Chrome seemed to be afraid of Aalekh, and Aalekh wasn't quite sure why. For some reason, though, the poke'mon thought it would be a good idea to rush up towards the Eevee again, armflaps reaching out as if to hug it. It seemed to be sorry.
monopoly was a boring game that had literally took months to accomplish. it was a game that J wished either him or erik had the courage to flip the board and call it quits; but alas, the end result was that they had sat through it until the bitter end. J had triumphed, but it was at a great cost.
"yeah," said the trainer, nodding, "i do." he had been here multiple times already; finding his way to di manes and subsequently through the caverns wasn't an issue to the man. "need some help?"
there was nothing wrong in helping out a fellow trainer, right?
on the other hand, chrome peered curiously at the trubbish. it seemed to be friendly enough, and welcoming, too. it blinked. chrome gave aalekh a small, timid bark before trotting towards it. it was willing to put aside its prejudices and fear at the prospect of perhaps getting to know another friend.
Erik heaved a sigh of relief when J seemed to comfort his nightmares of being stuck in the forest forever. If anything, he truly had thought that he was going to be left to rot, leaving his poke'mon behind as a memento to what happens when people stray from the trails. "Loads. I've been lost in here for what seems like ages."
As far as he was concerned, J was a godsend.
Aalekh gave a happy squeak when Chrome didn't run away again. The small bark was met with a belch because apparently that's the noise a trubbish makes, covering up it's mouth in some form of embarrassment, hoping that Chrome wasn't scared off. When the Eevee got close, it aimed to wrap his flaps around it, a wide grin on its face.
if erik died in the forest, his pokémon would become fossils. some people collected fossils for keepsake or to be revived into real pokémon -- J was one of them.
don't let him hear that.
moving along.
"let's get out of here, then," said the trainer as he jerked his head in the general direction of di manes. he started to walk towards the deeper end of the forest, before chrome's squeak stopped him in his tracks. J turned around, tilting his head at the sight.
chrome was on the verge of tears as it looked at aalekh. the belch had not only surprised the furry creature, it had also tried to wrap its arms around its body. the eevee was at a loss whether to flail or to simply stay put. it glanced at its trainer, waiting for some sort of helping hand.
sadly, none of the sort happened. brushing it off as easily as a breeze, J continued walking, much to chrome's dismay.
