This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Here was the thing. Zach wasn't a big bug guy. Sure, eh wasn't going to run away screaming. However, he didn't enjoy feeling them climb up his arms and legs. Nasty. Yet, there were a few that made him melt a little inside. Today, he was on the mission for one. a certain little yellow darling who would complete his life. walking through the grass - careful where he stepped, not wanting to harm any hiding creatures - the boy hummed himself a soft tune. To keep himself company.
Two spiders scurried through the trees. The larger of the two, green and poisonous, used her long thread of web to descend from the branches toward the young researcher. The face printed on her back was very unhappy- but her yes were curious.
Moments after her, the much smaller Joltik came sliding down the same web, squeaking with delight as it spiraled downward and landed on his older sister's back. Two very different species of spiders, born from the same parents. They went everywhere together. They were a packaged deal. But it was the Joltik who hopped from his sister's back toward the human, eager to get close and say his hello.
His gaze wasn't looking up, but in fact down at the grass that he stepped in. The boy would panic if he accidentally stepped on a Wurmple! So focused on his steps and such, the other wasn't aware of what was going around him - rather, above him. Two steps later and the boy let out a yelped - almost a squeal - as he felt land on his back. Instantly going still, Zach held his breath.. before reaching. Behind himself, nervous fingers trying to seek the creature there. " h..hello?"
The Joltik crawled atop the boy's head, nestling in his golden locks. The spider started to vibrate, content with his new nest. It was much more comfortable than the trees and the leaves.
But the Spinarak didn't like how close her baby brother was to this boy. The thread grew longer until she hit the ground, and scuttled across the grass. She circled around the boy until she was at his front. There was a low hiss- never a good sound from a spider- as she lowered her body, looking ready to lunge at the boy if she didn't return her brother this instant!
The hiss startled him. Zach stared with rather wide eyes, taking a slow step back - than two. However, a third was his limit. This was a forest, one had to be careful. Gravity took over as he hit a root and tipped backwards. Letting out a cry, he landed on his bottom. The movement in his hair slid towards his forehead and Zach gave a cry, or rather a gasp, as his cupped hands shot out to catch whatever creature was lingering.
Joltik's eyes went wide when he tumbled from the boy's head, down his face, and plopped comfortably in the cupped hands. He waved his little arms happily, as if he'd just rode down the most fun slide of the century!
But the Spinarak wasn't having it. She crawled closer, head turning to the side and eyes fixed on the man. She came closer and closer to the boy's feet, feeling she had an advantage now that he had tripped onto the ground. "Spin. Spi-spin!" she chirped, her voice squeaky, but she wanted the boy to unhand her brother right now!
"P-please stop!!" He called out to the other, inching backwards. he kept the small bug cupped in his hands as he shuffled back from the hostel creature. "Please, I didn't mean to upset you!" Why was this happening. Oh god. He was anxious - panicking. Yet, the little one hadn't attacked him yet. Oh. Looking down at his hands, the boy looked back up then smiled slightly. He lifted the hands a bit.. offering them out to the little bug. "..?"
The Joltik crawled free from th human's hands and down his arms until he was on the ground. His little feet patted against the ground as he charged toward the sister spider, giving her a sudden headbutt. The tik seemed to giggle at his own action, starting to rub his head against his sister's affectionately.
This calmed the Spinarak down. Her face lit up, excited and happy to have her favorite brother back. She picked the Joltik up and set him down on her back. She was three- almost four!- times his size. He easily fit and curled up on the frown print on her back. He started to vibrate happily again.
Watching the pair silently, Zach stayed still. It was rather fun, watching the little bugs interacting. Watching them with curious eyes, Zach waited before slowly inching closer. He smiled slightly before reached out - slowly - and softly touched the Joltik. Pet it's vibrating back with two fingers before looking back at the bigger spider. "oh, you wanted your little friend back? i'm sorry! I didn't mean to take him from you"
Joltik sat upright and reached out to grab the boy's finger. He happily chewed on the fingertip, nuzzling it and rubbing his face against the appendage. He loved humans! Though, this was the first one he'd ever met. Before this, he had only heard stories.
Spinarak was keeping an eye on the human. He was tinier than she thought humans would be. He didnt look very strong, but if he tried to step on them, she felt that she could take him on and win! Until then, she kept a wary guard up and let her brother interact with the foreigner.
Giving a gentle laughter, Zach allowed the smaller spider to do as he wished - then used his free hand to reach out of the other spider. It was slow, nervous, but he tried to give the other a smile. Despite how anxious Spinarak made him. The nervous smile stayed, petting the larger spider. "I'm not gonna hurt you, lil one.." Using his hand that was touching the Joltik, he lifted the small one up and pecked it's little yellow head. "You're so cute!"
As soon as the hand touched her, Spinarak jerked back, but suddenly went still. She thought maybe he intended to smack her away or smoosh her, like a human had once done to one of her elder brothers. But the touch was gentle and she shifted nervously, unsure if she should run or allow the actions.
Joltik was wiggling and chirping happily, glad that everyone could get along so well! The last thing he wanted was a fight. The tik wasn't much of a fighter- unlike his bigger sister, who was always looking to prove her worth.
"There ya' go girl.. doesn't be scared! 'm not going to hurt you. Please - relax?" He spoke softly, in hopes of soothing her strange anger towards her. It was expected, of course. After all, weren't all wild animals scared of humans? They were monsters. For all Zach knew, this curse in their lives was caused by humans. Probably was.
With his free hand, Zach picked up the little one and placed him on his head once more and softly stroked the little bug. "and you like it up there, right?" Of course he did - the tik was so gleeful earlier over the situation.
For that moment, the Spinarak trusted him. If he said he wouldn't hurt her, she'd take his word for it. But the second he gave one violent motion, she would lunge and poison the boy. Especially if it was toward her brother.
Joltik had gone quiet, nuzzling on top of the fluffy hair. He wanted to stay there forever! He could see the whole world from that height, and it was comfortable too. He wiggled his behind happily, folding the hair in front of him to make a comfortable nest for himself. If his sister weren't so big, he'd have asked her to join him.
He was going to cry, this was too much. It was so tiny, so cute. Fucking hell. Reaching up, he pet the little one rather eagerly, then looked over to the spider. "..I really want to take your friend home with me. So we can be friends, and play!" He reached out a hand to her, the smile falling a bit. "But I can't tear away friends! so, will you come with me too? My good friend would love you. So strong and brave"
