This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Magnolia was a photograph goldmine. When he snapped shots for local newspapers, he’d try to make it out here when it was full of activity and industrious. However, the solitude of a fisherman could make for the perfect picture.
Today was a day of role reversal. Karp passed a pleasant dude who tossed him an old rod of his. Quite intrigued, he couldn’t wait to test it out. Cura had its fair share of barboach at this creek his father and him fished at. The docks surely had much more interesting (and delicious) pokémon lurking in its waters.
Miriam sat in wait beside her trainer who sent forth a lure on the pier. She couldn’t wait to roast whatever came from the calm bay.
It didn't take too long for a water pokemon to see the lure hanging around beside the docks. If the Goldeen had been a bit smarter, it would have probably realized this was a trap. But...well, let's just say she was gullible at best.
So without much thinking said Goldeen bit down on the lure, only to start thrashing around when she hook snagged into her cheek. OW. WHY DID IT HURT SO MUCH.
The fishing farmer kept a close eye on his elekid. All it took was a misstep and the baby would electrocute the surrounding area. It’d be a depressing sight to see a graveyard of fish floating to the surface. Karp held his rod in one hand and used the other as a bannister for the sparkplug. Miriam took in the red sleeves of Karp’s jacket into her charged mouth. It made her trainer smile warmly.
“Oh shitshit!” The rod tugged unevenly. He pondered if anyone could pass up a bit of food. He retired his arm as his mon’s plaything and held onto the simple rod with both hands. Twice already, Karp had lost a lure to clever fishies. He reckoned he learned a thing or two from those experiences. He pulled with fury and looked to his babygirl.
“Look down, shock whatever you see.” Untrained, the toddler only reckoned the gist of what he said: SHOCK THE WATER. A few volts wouldn’t do much damage to the environment. Miriam leaned from the edge and zapped forth a thundershock from her plug prongs. The shock managed to be directed towards the goldeen's splashing.
Oh god why was this happening to her. All she wanted was a meal! The Goldeen flapped around, only to get zapped by an unseen force. The shock almost knocked her out, but somehow she survived, only to jump up and land on the dock above.
There she attacked randomly, being in a daze from the shock before. No one was going to take her out without a fight!
Miriam’s attack stopped the struggle on Karp’s end. For a moment, he considered reining the fried fish corpse in. He didn’t expect the damn fighter to leap out onto the docks. Flapping quite ridiculously, it released soundwaves that complicated his poor pokémon. Miriam looked as if she underwent some gnarly vertigo. Karp pulled in his lure out of the goldeen’s mouth, for this fish was on land now (aka his turf), and dropped the rod beside him. He cracked his knuckles and bent his knees. Time to battle!
“Shoot him the glare, babe. Then, quick attack!” The boy looked down at his unfocused elekid who really tried to get her shit together. She attempted to both leer and quick attack the fish-out-of-water. Karp hoped her static electricity would come into play as well. Anything to make a quick capture easy. DANDELION
Ugh! She just wanted to be back in the water! But the static coming from the electric pokemon's body seemed to have her paralyzed. Thankfully the pokemon's attacks didn't hit as it was confused, or was she the one who was out of her mind?
Either way, she was hurting. There was no way she could battle on. So she glared up at the trainer who dared to harm her like this. "Goldeeeeeeen?" She asked, as if asking why the male would do such a thing to a poor, innocent little fish.
The battle appeared to have ended on such a pitiful note. His little input fared well on these treacherous docks. This fish wasn’t for him it seemed. Still, after battling it so, it was his duty to find the creature a home where it’d be treasured. That was a virtue he wished to hold. He spooned out a deactivated pokeball from his pocket, clicked it, and tossed it at the flopping fish.
“Keep an eye on that, will you?” Miriam nodded and moved closer to the ringing sphere. Karp picked up his old rod and straightened the wire. He moved to his previous position and shot back out the trusty lure. His ears were focused in on the device beside him. If the ball was to fail, he’d have to kick the damned fish back into the ocean. DANDELION
The ball clicked, and the Goldeen was caught. But it took a bit longer this time around for another pokemon to catch itself on the lure.
This time was a complete accident. A Horsea was just swimming around, minding its own business when a large Magikarp smacked into it. The baby flailed around until its tail was caught on the hook, and it began to flail around on the end of the rod.
Miriam eyed the ball with such caution it made her trainer smile. This was an odd little bonding activity, he realized. Frying fish and letting them go. Maybe they should’ve made a business out of it. After the scourge threat was dealt with, of course. The ball clunked, and the elekid slid the deactivated pebble into Karp’s pocket. The boy hadn’t moved from the pier just yet. The day was far from over. He noted at once that it was going to be a long one.
“Ah, finally.” Karp didn’t have the fisherman’s patience just yet. The wait for this new lure was scratching his nerves. He handed the rod to his pokémon and took off his shoes. After what he planned to do, he might have to retrieve this one on his own. Possibly not. Maybe Karp just wanted to swim a lil’ bit.
“Thundershock” Volts surged through the entirety of the fishing line until it reached the horsea. DANDELION
Now that she was out of the water, she was being attacked! The little Horsea squeaked out as she jumped onto the deck, narrowly avoiding the lightning attack. She didn't like to fight...But if she had to fight to protect herself, then she'd do it!
Briefly, he considered becoming a fisherman himself and throwing away this voyage into the scourge’s center. His eyes followed the horsea as it instinctively evaded attacks and fought for its freedom. All that action combined with the saltwater air made for good heart-racing ambiance. He reined in the lure by wrapped it around his wrist. He could feel how agitated this little creature was. What she did to put a cork in Karp’s strategy was smart. Karp liked wits in a pokémon.
“Hm, Miriam: Return!” He clicked a ball from his jacket pouch and the elekid came whizzing inside it. Out came another pokémon from another ball. Ozzy rotated gracefully with help of his wings. Now that he knew where the heck he was, he eyed the horsea. His trainer plugged up his ears with index fingers (who’s index fingers? The world may never know! Okay, it’s his index fingers.) and crouched low.
What a wonderful melody! The Horsea didn't have fingers to plug her ears, and she just sat there, lulled by the song. If it would put her to sleep, only time would tell.
Verbal ambien. Twice already, the hero hopeful used the swablu’s singing to lull him in hostel rooms. Personally, Karp appreciated the sound of the city much more. Still, he was always restless back in Cura, so he might need his starter’s little talent for the road. Once all was said and done, he watched closely with a hand of an empty pokeball in his pocket.
“Uh, what the-” The horsea dipped in and out of sleep! What kind of light sleeper was this seahorse? Karp felt pity for such light sleepers. He might’ve been the heaviest one on the planet really.
“Alright, then. Growl!” The swablu took a deep breath and belted once more. The grumble was more like a guttural chirping. An unintimidating bird, he was. “Now, fury attack!” The bird now dove down near the horse out of water and tried to buffet it with its wings. DANDELION
swablu used growl and fury attack on horsea. (you can roll 1-5 for that. c:)
Karp squinted to realize that the horsea was asleep all along. He watched in admiration as his swablu gave the bay pokémon some good hits. Somehow it was still sleeping, he noted. Maybe the pokémon was a heavier sleeper than he! He freed an empty ball from his pocket, clicked it, and threw it towards sleeping beauty.
“Ozy, come back. Let’s check this out.” Karp grinned before walking closer, crouching low, and observing the clicking ball. DANDELION
