This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

The watering hole was Fortuna Oasis' main attraction. A variety of different Pokémon made their way to the oasis to drink water. So, naturally, that was where Mordecai had headed as well. Ventus did not appear to be particularly bothered by the intense heat. In fact, he was in a rather chipper mood. Mordecai wondered if the raptors had once lived in a particularly arid environment as well. The Staraptor swooped around in a wide circle, before finally landing upon the shore of the oasis.
"Don't wander too far," he said, though Mordecai had a feeling that the warning was unnecessary. The Staraptor could take very good care of himself. Instead, the Pokémon made a snorting sound and began to preen his wings. Ventus knew that the words were not to bother him though, but instead, because the breeder genuinely wanted to make sure his Pokémon didn't get caught in trouble.
Meanwhile, the sun beat down harder upon their backs.
linked arm in arm, the trio of pokémon whirled a few inches off the ground, drawing intricate patterns in the sands. the sun and harsh, rough winds were of little to no consequence to the group. the baltoy trio worked on a pattern, and no passing human was a distraction to them.

Mordecai rose from beside the oasis and drew nearer, slowly, to see what the Baltoy were up to. He wondered if the intricate patterns they drew were ancient hieroglyphics, passed down from generation to generation. It was feasible, he thought, and that made the Pokémon even more curious to him. The Staraptor, on the other hand, didn't seem very interested in what the Pokémon were doing.
"Baltoy, what are you drawing?" he called out to them, though Mordecai had already decided that they probably wouldn't reply to his question. The Pokémon appeared to be incredibly absorbed in what they were up to.
thankfully, mordecai had gained some semblance of intelligence by the time he reached mors desert. only time would tell if larsa had the same improvement.
the baltoy trio continued their mysterious drawing; all of a sudden, the markings gleamed a brilliant bluish-green. it was the prelude to a sandstorm; the winds increased, and a second later, mordecai and his staraptor would find themselves battered by strong, sandy winds.
Mordecai's omniscient narrator has the sneaking suspicion that this mod speaks with sarcasm but i digress.
Mordecai quickly hid his mouth and nose in the collar of his jacket. Ventus, on the other hand, was not fazed by the Sandstorm at all. Instead, he spread his wings and rose above the sands, beating down upon the Baltoy with a Whirlwind to counter the sandstorm. Mordecai isn't very sure what the Staraptor is up to, thinking that he can summon winds stronger than a sandstorm on his own. Unfortunately, Ventus is a little too high up for Mordecai to tell him to stop the nonsense. He saw no reason why the Staraptor felt the need to outdo these three Baltoy.
A Pokéball dropped from the man's pockets, and out stumbled a Porygon-2. The Pokémon tilted its head curiously, beeped happily, then zipped off to go greet the Baltoy despite the breeder's warnings.
the whirlwind thrust its winds against the sandstorm, which quickly drew the attention of the baltoy. briefly, the hieroglyphs dimmed; the baltoy abruptly stopped their spinning, and immediately went along with the flow of the whirlwind. as a result, the sandstorm only grew stronger, and more ferocious. their drawings also gleamed brighter despite the sandy barrier that the sandstorm kicked up.
as the bird circled the air where the storm was less brutal, the baltoy trio started humming an ancient tune. perhaps, they were summoning their ancestors -- but they were ultimately interrupted by a porygon2. naturally, they did not take the interruption well. the porygon species was hardly a technological marvel; it was a glitch, unlike their species, which was far, far ahead of their time.
"yaji ... yaji ..."
their humming started up again, but they no longer spun.
"yaji ..."
the sandstorm quivered, before a massive explosion from the ground greeted the visiting trio.
The Porygon2, Duco, makes a huge u-turn at the massive explosion. That can't be good news. It zips behind Mordecai, trembling with fear. The man bends down a bit to pick the creature up and rub its head. He glances up at the sky, only hoping that the Staraptor can see him through the sandstorm. The Pokémon's sharp eyesight should be able to detect his movement. He waves at the Pokémon and begins to fall back. In case Ventus still didn't notice, Duco tilts his head backwards and sends out a Signal Beam.
The sand is soft beneath Mordecai's feet. He finds that he's having a bit of trouble leaving the vicinity. All the man can do is hope that whatever Pokémon caused the underground explosion isn't something... huge and menacing.
the baltoy are now separated from each other, and each of the hieroglyphs seem to be a platform for the creatures now above them. it was a swarm of claydol -- perhaps it was mordecai who had spawned this swarm for the site, but no one knew this fact.
the claydol trio rose into the air, bringing along the baltoy. together, they headed into the eye of the sandstorm.
:claydol: x3 lv100 levitate ancientpower, extrasensory, rapid spin, sandstorm, explosion, cosmic power + signal beam
multiple rays of light flashed through the sky; it was reminiscent of lightning, but it was apparent that there was something else going on. they seemed to be signaling for something else -- the sandstorm came to a rest, and what remained were six figures floating in the air, and bright lights that shone for all of the desert to see.
also, these claydol were massive. and way larger than normal claydol. they were ancient dolls resurrected by the will of their generations.
Mordecai made a high-pitched whistle, and the Staraptor fell back. As soon as the Porygon2 spied the three Claydol and the bizarre light show, the cyber Pokémon began to tremble in Mordecai's arms. Duco was a creature formed from technology, and this ancient summoning ritual was foreign to the Pokémon. Mordecai, on the other hand, was quite fascinated by all of it.
The human, Porygon2, and Staraptor backed off, but the flashing lights were still blinding. Mordecai still had no idea what was happening, but he intended on sticking around for a bit. After all, despite the fact that the Claydol were massive, they didn't seem particularly aggressive yet.
"What do you make of it?" he whispered to the Staraptor, a safe distance from the six figures. Duco's eyes glowed red as the Pokémon sought to scan the swarm of Claydol and Baltoy, but Mordecai quickly covered the Pokémon's glowing eyes with a hand.
so the question was whether mordecai actually wanted any of these to turn violent. with zulf, you never knew.
the ground trembled under the weight of the clayol as one of them dropped down without warning. sand was sprayed in multiple directions as the other claydol fell down as well. so did the other baltoy, after a while.
Considering the Claydol shouldn't have nearly been as large as they were, Mordecai had fingers and toes crossed that the Pokémon didn't get violent. He's not a trainer, and his Pokémon's levels are half that of the Claydol. Getting them angry would be a pretty bad idea.
Mordecai blinked as the Claydol and Baltoy began to disappear into the floor. It was a very bizarre scene. So he waited to see if all the Pokémon would fall into the chasm of the desert before moving onward.
all that was left after the scene was a massive hole in the middle of mors desert, with sand filling in the deep chasm. the baltoy and claydol were nowhere to be seen, but an ancient song started to echo out of of the gaping hole. perhaps, there were more to come. once a ritual was in full-swing, it stopped for no-one.
several curious shrews had passed by, and were watching the phenomenon with keen interest.
Briefly, Mordecai wondered just how rare witnessing a phenomena such as the one that unfolded before his eyes was supposed to be. On the other hand, the scene had garned plenty of attention from curious Pokémon. Unlike the Claydol that had emerged from the heart of the desert, the Sandshrew and Sandslash were not at level 100 (or at least, it appeared to be).
Duco was a little more hesitant to say hello to these Pokémon, and Ventus mostly ignored them. Mordecai gave a little wave to the pair of Sandshrew and Sandslash, wondering if they'd wave back.
perhaps mordecai just didn't understand what was going on. things could have been different had he been a ruin maniac, or a researcher. sadly, he was a breeder, and claydol didn't really reproduce. his gaze on the shrews were a bit ... welp.
the sandslash was braver, and waved back to mordecai. the sandshrew on the other hand, ducked behind the evolved pokémon. it peered out curiously at the human and his pokémon, wondering if they had anything to do with the strange song ebbing out from the chasm.
"I'm harmless, I promise," Mordecai says, trying to reassure the Sandshrew. He wondered if the two Pokémon lived nearby. Perhaps this was mother and child or father and child. Whichever it was, there was a clear and affectionate connection between the Sandshrew and the Sandslash.
Once the Sandslash waved back, Duco seemed a little more encouraged to introduce himself. The Porygon2's feet rotated a full 360 degrees as it levitated higher into the air. The bizarre Pokémon then settled upon its trainer's head, making what appeared to be chirping noises. "I think they're friendly enough," Mordecai said to Duco, "though may want to take it slow. The Sandslash will probably retaliate if you scare the Sandshrew."
