This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Mordecai was certain that the earlier battle with the Scourge could have ended much messier than it actually had. He recognized J from Nero City, but the man hadn't been expecting him to swoop by Bacchus Town to help bail him out from Scourge. While he was grateful, he also knew that J appreciated silence. There wasn't much to say between them.
But when they had finally crossed the border into Cura Village, he turned to the man anyways and asked, "J, what is it that brings you here?"
Perhaps conversation was easy because Mordecai was not aware that this man had spent a night bickering over a bed with his sister.
the scourge fight had not been a tough one. he had remembered harder ones; ones that he had fought alongside thalia and stefan. those were difficult fights, but perhaps it had been the level disparity that had brought him such trouble with fighting. now that his team was somewhat stronger, fighting came more naturally to them. even the clumsy aggron he had was a behemoth to be reckoned with.
"the road," J replied, shaken out of his thoughts. the man had been through several ordeals before finally deciding to continue his journey through kohaku. his ordeals had involved food and if possible, J was quite certain he would avoid the local delicacies before he keeled over, dead. he continued walking, heavy shoes kicking up sand and dust as if it were the wind.
"i've been walking with you since bacchus," the man said, looking at mordecai. "and we came here."
delilah was right. mordecai seemed to have either memory issues or a problem processing things children in kindergarten could.
Mordecai shook his head. "Yes, I know that, but you could have left the road during any point of our travels." To challenge the local gym, then? Or was there really no other choice but to keep going forward? The two of them had reached the edge of Cura Village anyways, so he wasn't very sure if there was a need to continue forward together. He did enjoy company though.
"... never mind."
His eyes scanned their surroundings. Cura Village was silent compared to Nerio City. Perhaps it was similar to Bacchus and Decima in that sense, but there was not a Scourge Pokémon in sight. The village lacked the dilapidated buildings of those previous areas. It was... nice, so to speak. For the first time in awhile, Mordecai felt genuinely relaxed. In his eyes, it would make a better "home" than Nerio City, a place to recover after fighting.
"i haven't been past the desert," said J, looking at the breeder. he had no intention to challenge the gym; he only had two badges, and that was it. he didn't feel like giving the other gyms a shot -- especially not with a team that was fucking haemorrhaging a weakness to ground or fire all over the place. "... what?" the trainer glanced at the older delacroix, face expresionless as always.
the village was peaceful, and J didn't understand why mordecai thought that he should have left at any point of their travels. conversation had been sparse, and whatever words that were said had already been over and done. he continued along the path. "you're secretly a loner?" he deadpanned, "one who dislikes company?"
"Nothing, nothing," Mordecai responded, shaking his head. "Don't worry about it." J had never been much of a talker and Mordecai didn't know what to say, so perhaps the silence was better for the two of them. There was probably more to be said in the quiet anyways. But J had asked a question, so Mordecai decided it was only polite to answer it. "Not really, no," he responded. "I do enjoy having company." It had been awhile since he'd kept any company, not that he would have forgotten what it was like to keep human companionship in the first place.
