This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.

The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

I mean, to level up the weaklings. There was no way Felizia could afford daycare for all twenty-plus of her Pokemon and really, having them battle in the battle arena seemed the safest way to do this. Besides, they had been nagging her about it for a while. As always, her Pokemon were more excited about it than she was and were excitedly chittering and chattering amongst each other as another trainer entered the arena.
“Hey!” Felizia called over to the other person with a wave. “One on one only, alright?”
She had tried a double battle before and had quickly come to the conclusion that her Pokemon should learn how to actually battle before even attempting to do so teamed up with another Pokemon.
Delilah waved across the arena to Felizia. "Hey there -- did have fun with your fellow magikarp?" she asked cheerily, her pokemon trailing behind her. The two fighting types were glancing around nervously, whereas the chansey happily waved at Felizia's pokemon.
"You to get your behind kicked? I'm sure you'd make some great fish fry."
Felizia shot a cheery smile back at the trainer and answered, “Of course. How could I not have fun with my bros?” Felizia tried not to think of how Delilah was undoubtedly one of the last person she had wanted to see here (oh hell, technically she had now dreamed of Delilah - stupid dream world!) and tried to survey Delilah’s Pokemon instead.
Yeah… no.
“Don’t you know? I’m too sweet for fish fry.”
Might as well send in her fishy-looking Pokemon first. Wouldn’t Dee like that? The Mantyke took centre stage.
Mantyke used Hydro Pump. Silly thing only knows offensive attacks :c

At least if the battle wasn’t going to be fun and painless to watch, “chatting” to Delilah would be a good distraction. “You know me so well!” Her smile was still there, but her voice slipped into a more sarcastic tone. Felizia didn't like the idea of the trainer knowing her well.
The Mantyke was on his own now. Whatever. It probably knew the art of battling better than Felizia did, even if it had no experience. That was what Felizia told herself, and it made her feel less guilty when she barely noticed her Pokemon getting hit.
And that right there was the closest she’d ever get to receiving a compliment from the esteemed Delilah Delacroix. “Well, it was a cold, dark, stormy night…” She paused for a second, then, “Actually, it might have been. I don’t know what the weather was like outside.
“Anyway, it was a cold, dark, not-at-all stormy cavern, and who should creep up on me but one of your brothers. Really, he did creep.” Well, he probably hadn’t, but he had given her a fright. Close enough.
Mantyke was hit by Avalanche. Mantyke used Bubblebeam.
Scoff. "Forget I ever asked you to tell me, your storytelling is shit." Delilah shook her head, watching the mantyke tackle her chansey once more. "Which one did you meet?"
Half of her hoped it was Isaac -- the other half begged otherwise.
“Only shit to those who don’t know how to listen.” No, Felizia, even the best listeners in the world would agree with Delilah. Saying that, Delilah must have known that Felizia had put it on just for her. There was no way someone could naturally be that bad.
But her (apparent lack of) storytelling skills were old news already. She put a finger to her chin and pretended. “I’m trying to remember if it was the hot one—oh!”
Her Pokemon had fainted. Oh well, she returned it and nominated Pokemon number two. “Go on Aipom. Have fun against the pink blob.”
Mantyke was hit by Brave Bird and fainted. Like, that move owned him lol. Aipom used Tail Whip. Aipom used Scratch.
"Yes, because listening to you isn't a total waste of time." Delilah shrugged. "And you must not be talking about my brothers, then."
Delilah watched as the chansey knocked out the mantyke, cooing in confusion when the other pokemon stopped moving, and promptly fainted when she felt the aipom's nails dig into her pink skin.
"Well, that's that."

“Then why are you still listening?” She folded her arms and her smile became a smirk. “You could’ve ignored me and I would’ve stopped talking.” Except that Felizia had mentioned the b-word, and it seemed impossible for Delilah to ignore any mentions of her brothers.
“Oh no, he was definitely a Delacroix. Said so himself right there in the caverns.”
Um… Bide does nothing yet so Aipom gets no damage this turn?? Aipom used Tail Whip Aipom used Scratch
“Of course. Conversing with you is such a great honour.” Hand to the chest as if she was genuinely touched by the ‘compliment’. “So why don’t you keep it up and enlighten me – what do you think a hot guy looks like?”
Aipom uses Tail Whip. Aipom uses Scratch. Don't worry, one day he'll grow into a big, strong Mediwhatsit
She was clearly avoiding giving an answer. Felizia decided to interpret it simply: Delilah didn’t know. “If he ran over my foot, he’d have to get a new face.” Gross exaggeration (she wasn’t that violent), but it sounded so much better than the alternatives she had come up with.
Aipom was hit by Bide. Aipom used Tail Whip. Aipom used Scratch. (It only does like 1hp damage :/ - sorry Bide)
