However, those dreams were cut short as soon as the scourge appeared. As one might expect, he was more than willing to fight on the front lines in order to keep a hold on Kohaku. However, he wasn't strong enough, and he and his pokemon were overwhelmed. In the process, Ludis lost his team, and his left arm. After his defeat, he was more than willing to resign himself to the life of a civilian, but the constant reminders of what had been, the reminders of the good times he had with his partners, kept him from fully being able to recover. So, while he had no confidence in leading a team into battle again, he decided he would try his hand at working with pokemon once more.
