The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

It was the middle of the night now and freezing cold. William had been wandering around the docks for hours now, and the maze of docks and warehouses seemed endless. Earlier in the day he had become lost in the bustling crowd of travelers, merchants, and pokemon. For hours he had been searching for the pokemon center to no avail.
As he turned a corner he heard a loud rustling up ahead and grabbed for a pokeball. He was ready for whatever was up ahead. At this point he was a ready for a fight, hoping it might help warm him up and vent some of his frustrations.
snarling and tossing its head, the creature galloped across the boardwalk, shrilly crying its name in hot pursuit of its target. it had chased its prey straight into a pile of trash.
the nidorino spoke its name once, eyes boring holes into the other creature writhing amongst discarded paper bags and coffee cups. having fallen over, the skiddo was having difficulty trying to pick itself up.
once it stood on its two feet (albeit shakily), the skiddo glanced up and was immediately greeted by a sharp horn pointed in its face. "skid!" it yelped in surprise, staggered backwards, and fell over again.
William could hear the distinct sounds of a fight up ahead, and it sounded pretty one-sided. As he rounded the corner the fighters came into view. A nidorino seemed to be trying to kill a small skiddo, and he seemed pretty close to doing it.
This is perfect! We'll save the skiddo and catch them both!
He ripped a pokeball from his belt and threw it forward. "Come on Elekid! Use leer and thunder shock on Nidorino!" As he hit the ground elekid was already attempting to stare holes into the wild Nidorino before sending a stream of lightning towards the purple horned beast.

the nidorino was zapped by an unwelcome blast of electricity. it turned in the general direction of the attack, snorting and tossing its head about. its gaze soon focused on the cause of its injury: an elekid with electricity still sparking forth from its skull.
it leered back at the electric-type, and charged.
the skiddo was still struggling.

Both of attacks had hit their mark! This was the most exhilarating experience of William's life, he was finally following in the footsteps of his mother. However the celebrations were cut short. The small poison pokemon leered back at the Elekid before charging forth, horns down and ready to do some damage.
"Elekid get out of the way and use swift!" Elekid heeded his orders well, diving out of the way just before impact and unleashing a torrent of glowing stars and sparks on his opponent.

Elekid took the kicks and staggered backwards. He wouldn't be able to survive another one of those, but at least the skiddo seemed to be on his side. "You're doing great elekid. Now follow up with your own attacks!"
Elekid sent out an arc of lightning directly towards Nidorino and quickly followed it up with another swift attack.

the nidorino was zapped by another blast of electricity. damn the elekid. it decided to fight back, only to meet resistance in the form of a skiddo. it growled angrily.
the skiddo cheered elekid on. it wasn't much of a fighter, but the electric-type sure was.

It seemed Elekid had his own little fan club going on, maybe this would help later when they went to catch the skiddo. "I want you to dodge and then attack again." This would likely be the last attack he would be able to use before fainting, so he had to make it count.
As Nidorino charged forward, elekid dodged to the side. He then lunged back at his opponent, attempting to kick him into submission.

the nidorino was kicked in the face and as a result, flinched from the blow. it had hurt. it growled under its breath and charged at the elekid. the skiddo quickly launched a flurry of leaves at the nidorino in an attempt to stop it.
sadly, it wasn't quick enough. the nidorino had launched its attack before the leaves reached it. all the same, it got a faceful of razor-sharp leaves.

That last attack had done it for Elekid, he was down for the count. He returned his partner to his ball and pulled out his next one, tossing it into the air. His smoochum sprang forth, landing before their opponents.
"It's time to finish this, Smoochum!" The small pokemon sprang forth, attempting to lick his opponent.

paralyzed and helpless, the nidorino was subjected to a combination of lick, razor leaf and leech seed, all in rapid succession. it growled its name one final, menacing time, before fainting.
the skiddo cheered at the nidorino's defeat. served it right! bullies were bad, and it got what was coming.
Yes! They had finally defeated the powerful Nidorino and now it was time to capture it. William expanded an empty ball and threw it at the unconscious pokemon. As it hit it enveloped it in a bright red beam and pulled it in. The ball clicked and rolled three times before a distinct 'bing' signified a successful capture.
Now it was time to turn their attention to the skiddo. "What do you say? Do you want to battle now too?" The trainer and his pokemon stood at the ready. This had been William's first battle and he was already in love with the feelings that it instilled.

the skiddo blanched at the idea of fighting a strong trainer. it had thought that it was safe from having to fight after the nidorino was defeated; oh, how wrong it had been!
it hung its head, and took a step back. the kid shook its head while repeating its name. it had had quite the adventure today, thank-you-very-much.
That was one in the bag, now it was time to snag this other one. William understood that the small pokemon wanted to just be left along but he had to have him for his team. He was small and weak now, but with a little training he could be shaped into a fine fighter.
"Don't worry, we'll make it quick." He smiled at the young grass type before glancing at his own pokemon. "Use powdersnow!" Smoochum exhaled, unleashing a freezing flurry of snow and ice.
