This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Now nix was known for liking training, being able to make her pokemon stonger and happier made her happy too. And she loved forests, they were calming and dark and everything she liked about the world. But she was starting to grow sick of training here. She knew Poko needed work to level up, misty was alright and it wouldnt hurt mimi or ickle to get some more work in as well. "URG!" nix said with a moan as she dropped to the floor of the forest track, her hands curled up in anger and 3 of her pokemon looking at her. She had Mimi and ickle out close to her while poko had moved on ahead now, they were the ones that needed the training but now she needed to find a pokemon for them to train against. She needed them that bit stronger so she could move on to a new place and train there without having them get their butts kicked right back here because they had no chance
the mother raticate was having a bad day. its young weren't listening to it at all. to make matters worse, the scourge had arrived and its young hadn't the slightest idea of self-preservation, which made things all the more difficult. it had already lost one of its babies to the scourge, but the rest of the litter was safe.
"rrrrati!" it snapped at its eldest, who was attempting to sneak away from the pack. the rat snapped again, physically this time, to keep them in line.
Nix was thinking to herself for a moment as she sat on the ground, she needed to decide who she was going to work with so she knew where she should look in the forest. Though it seemed ickle has spotted something from her perch and now was pointing down the pathway behind them, nix turned to glance back only to see a few pokemon there. She smiled softly as she spotted the mother pokemon with her young, trying to keep them together it seemed. "Hi there, you guys ok?" nix said in a kind voice as she saw the group, were they trying to avoid the darker pokemon in the forest like she and her team were trying to? She felt a little like she wanted to aid them, though a mother with young could be very on edge. There guys werent on her list so she didnt want to battle them if she didnt have to but a mother could easily attack to keep her little ones safe
the raticate regarded the trainer with a sort of hesitance. it didn't know what to think of the trainer other than it was dangerous to stay in the forest and around humans. the rat took a step back, but its young sprang forth from its back to approach nix happily.
the rattata chattered and nipped around her feet playfully, while their mother watched on with a wary eye.
Nix watched carefully as the mother pokemon seemed most on edge and moved back a little though the younger one seemed ok with her being there and even did so much as to come a little closer, something nix couldnt help but grin at. They seemed to small and sweet, well most people she knew would still think its a rat pokemon and dislike it but they were so cute. She reached out a hand while keeping another wrapped around ickle at her chest he gave a little giggle at seeing new pokemon and maybe making new freinds. Ickle was by no means the youngest on her team but she acted that way and so a chance to meet other young pokemon might be good for her, it was an idea nix was most happy with if the three wanted to play together
the two baby rattata chirped happily and nuzzled their heads against nix's legs. they were still young and unaware about the dangers of humans. they chattered happily amongst themselves.
"i'm tired of walking," the youngest complained, "my legs hurt!"
its older brother shook its head. "we can't stop because mother said we have to keep walkin'."
Nix beamed as the little Pokemon came to her and rubbed against her side, this felt like old times when she was back in her home forest. She suddenly shivered at this thought and then shook her head to clear herself but her own pokemon knew what the signs meant and she found poko beside her, rubbing her head against her trainer. Nix gave a small lopsided smile and reached her hand to stroke her which gave ickle the free moment to jump down from her trainer and drop beside the two young pokemon as they began to talk among themselves. "where are you going to?" she asked in a chirpy voice as her trainer moved to rock back on her feet and sit down, allowing poko and MIMI to come close RO her while the little ones amused themselves
"we don't know," said the younger rattata with a small sigh. "only mother does."
the older brother nudged its younger sibling, and shook its head. the mother raticate watched on with a click of its tongue. young ones could be so lacking in understanding sometimes. the scourge was bad, but the mother supposed that it couldn't expect that out of a rattata only six months old.
"we should be going towards a city. filled with bright lights and nicer people and no dark, dangerous pokémon," said the older sibling.
Nix lifted a hand up as her pokemon cam to her side and she felt poko leaned against her before the fire type huffed and sat down beside the read head, mimi simply moved herself into her trainers lap. It was nice to have a small and simple moment here and there and if ickle was happy enough amusing herself with other young pokemon, well it all worked out. "I think i know that city, my human met me in a dark place and i asked to travel with her and when we left the place was bright. It was nice, very busy though" ickle said to her new pokemon freinds, though she didnt understand what they said about dark pokemon. Maybe nix knew. If only ickle would ask her trainer these things, well maybe the older pokemon with these two freinds of hers knew too. Though it seemed she was trying to keep the little ones away from something, maybe these other pokemon really were bad
"really?" chirped the younger sibling, "that's great! i hope we can get there faster then, i wanna see a busy city!"
"it's not all fun and games," said the older brother as it gave a look at their mother.
the raticate seemed somewhat worried for the safety of its young. the smaller rattata was still naive and innocent in the ways of the world after all. it couldn't imagine a life after it lost its two remaining children.
"but ..." the younger rattata protested. "it's a nice place!"
Nix watched ickle talk to the two little pokemon for a moment before she glanced up at their mother behind them and held up a hand, inviting her to come over. Nix had spent more than enough of her childhood around pokemon to know a little of how to speak to or with them, or get her message across, and she wanted the mother to know her children were quite alright with her near them. ickle on the other hand was almost forgetting about the older pokemon and having a ball with her new freinds, "it is a nice place, big and open and stuff to do. But i think theres always the chance of pokemon wanting a battle, i like battles though. They make you stronger, then you can protect others. But some dont like battles, its funny" the little girl said to both the children in turn, it seemed one of them had a bit more of a hold on how bad the world really was though
"you called me funny!" the young rattata yelped in surprise. "it's not funny if i don't like battles!" it frowned, and stamped its feet on the ground.
the mother raticate swooped in to remove its troublesome child before things got out of hand. "there, there," said the mother, "i'm sure it didn't mean you any harm. it's fine to not like battling. there's much more to the world than fighting." it hugged its child close.
the older brother stepped up bravely to ickle. "well, unlike my little sibling over there, i like battles. it's a good way to get stronger because one day i'll protect mother and my younger sibling!"
Ickle yelped and started back as the smaller rat suddenly spoke back to her and she lowered her head and shivered a little in fear, "I just mean, i dont understand people who dont like battling. Im sorry" she said in a small voice before the mother pokemon moved forwards and ickle started backwards again. had she said something really bad? Would the mother tell her off? Oddly, she didnt. She spoke to her child before the elder spoke ad ickle relaxed, so it was just the little one who didnt like to battle. At least she hadnt said something really bad. "I like the idea of getting stronger and looking after people, its nice to know i can keep them safe if i have to" she said in agreement with the other child, nice to see someone understood what she had meant and she hadnt offended everyone
"that's the spirit," said the older brother with a flash in its eyes. it felt strongly with that statement, despite its younger sibling.
the mother raticate pressed a paw to the back of its youngest, before ushering them on. "we should make a move," said the mother, "it has been nice to meet you. your human seems nice, as well." it bowed politely, and urged the older sibling away from ickle.
"hurry up."
with a small wave and a smile to them, the older rattata scampered away, trailing after its mother and younger sibling.
Ickle felt a little frown drop on to her face as the pokemon said they needed to leave, part of her had hoped to maybe battle the older sibling and have a laugh doing it but their mother was the one in charge here and so she got to decide all that stuff. She nodded her head and waved to the pokemon as they moved off before she shuffled back to nix, still sitting in the middle of the road. "Have fun?" nix asked and ickle looked up at her and nodding stiffly before she pressed her head against the girls knee, "Its alright ickle, everyone has to move on. I'm sure you'll see your freind against some time" Nix said with a little smile as she reached down to stroke the little pink pokemons head
