This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Rattata was excited. It zigzagged around on the ground in front of her before coming to an abrupt halt, yet never stopped moving. It ran in place on its paws, wiggled its tail, whiskers twitching - Lacey wondered if there was anything that hyped it up so much besides battling. She doubted it.
The battle arena was still new to her, but upon Rattata's request to return, she'd relented, offered to try again. Part of her couldn't recall what the result was the last time she'd come here, but that was the strange thing about dreams, she supposed. Wondering if she would manage to remember anything more this time, Lacey clasped her hands in front of her and waited, grinning.
vertigo sorry this took so long to set up! i wasn't sure what kind of battle you wanted, lacey has other pokemon if you're looking for doubles/triples/several singles battles!
"into the darkness they go, the wise and the lovely."
J stepped into the battle arena. this place was familiar to him. he had been here in his early days of working for eos, as it was a good source of levels. like always, his opponent was there waiting for him. J nodded in acknowledgement to the cheerful figure opposite him, and raised his hand in greeting.
"hi," he said, "i suppose i'm your challenger."
citrus (( up to you, i have a lot of pkmn to throw around lol ))
Her pokemon saw the opponent before her, raised up on its hackles and squeaked a warning. Lacey smoothed out her dress and waved back at the man on the other side, feeling something between anticipation and rookie anxiety.
"I guess so, mister!" She dropped her hand, clasping them together in front of her, smiling. "My name's Lacey, it's great to be battling you today."
vertigo how does 3 1v1 battles sound? somewhat of a reminder of our first threads together, haha.
"into the darkness they go, the wise and the lovely."
... mister? J wasn't sure about that word, but he supposed he could live with that. he nodded at his opponent. "J," said the trainer, "it's been a while since i had a battle here."
it had indeed been a very long time. he had passed on the arena in favor of fighting scourge.
citrus (( sure i'm game for that. all the nostalgia, man. level range? ))
"J, okay!" Lacey nodded her head, clapped her hands together. "It's nice to meet you!"
"Me too. But I came back because it makes my pokemon happy." Rattata squeaked its approval. Lacey inclined her head in J's direction. "Is that why you decided to return?" She asked him.
vertigo ah yeah all the nostalgia. <3 any pokemon from 5-15, that's the level range my three choices are between!
"into the darkness they go, the wise and the lovely."
oh, that was an interesting thought. not many people did battles because their pokémon were happy to do it. they did them to grow stronger -- but he supposed that things varied from person to person.
"no," came J's reply. "i fell asleep and i was brought here." just like before. he rarely came to the battle arena by intention. recent happenings had discouraged him from coming, after all. (participate in ragnarök again? no thanks.)
he sent out his lv5 deino, lazlo. the creature tossed its head about excitedly.
citrus (( cool. i've got a lv5 deino, lv10 tyrunt and a lv15 shinx. o/ ))
That was reasonable. Lacey nodded her head while Rattata scurried to the front, whiskers twitching with anticipation. "That's alright, too. Oh, unless you didn't want to be here. Then it's rather unfortunate." She didn't exactly mind being here, but there were times where it could get hectic, and some people didn't like that.
Or so she'd been told. "Do you want to go first?" It was what she said, anyways. Rattata surged forward before she could finish and attempted to tackle the deino, eyes shining with excitement.
"Sorry, I'm really sorry!" Lacey clutched at a piece of her dress, slightly flustered.
Rattata gave a loud squeak of surprise and leapt out of the way, smoothing out its whiskers with both paws. Lacey grinned, happy that she hadn't ruined whatever first impression she was supposed to be making, especially to that deino.
"Does your pokemon have a name?" She asked J. Rattata plowed ahead without a second thought, its entire body poised with unrestrained enthusiasm.
"it used to," said J. he hadn't really bothered with names along the line, but he figured he could try to remember the deino's name. "lazlo," he eventually remembered.
the deino heard its long-unmentioned name and turned around, releasing towards J a blast of dragon rage in response. it grinned, and was then bowled over by rattata.
J watched blankly as draconic flames pelted the force field.
She pouted. "He doesn't want one. I don't know why." Rattata turned around and squeaked in pokemon language, then scowled as the blue flames blasted over it, singing yellow fur a faint grey. Lacey covered her mouth with a hand to hide what promised to be a laugh.
"Lazlo isn't a bad name! Does he just not like it?" Perhaps the deino preferred being nameless, or it'd changed its mind, or both. It was understandable - in the end, pokemon were just extensions of humans, weren't they?

J nodded. thalia didn't nickname her pokémon too, for reasons he didn't know. it seemed sensible for other pokémon to not get nicknamed as well.
"you'll see," said J, "lazlo." he said the name again, and the deino turned to face him. a blast of dragon rage came his way. it was pretty apparent that whenever its name was mentioned, the deino would simply fire off its attacks at whoever said it.
it turned to where lacey was and did the same.
and then it snickered.
deino hit by tackle deino used dragon rage
citrus (( how did rattata use two atk moves unless you used a boost? ))
Lacey saw the dragon rage and sidestepped it with a rare air of haste about her. The sides of her dress - the ends that weren't so fortunate - flared with light blue flames for a moment before dying down.
"How fascinating!" She clapped her hands together once, then studied the deino with her head inclined slightly, to one side. "Any ideas as to why he does that?" Pokemon were an interesting species that always found new ways to surprise her. Perhaps that was why she favored them so much.
