This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

After being with each other for months and months, Tiffany had become rather desensitised to Mo’s signature prank and rarely tried to stop him anymore. Now whenever he’d decide to play hair stylist, she’d just carry on with whatever she was doing and hope that no one would make the connection between them.
No such luck this time. Tiffany had been browsing through a magazine when some middle-aged woman cleared her throat. Tiffany ignored her, so she did it again only to get the same result.
“Excuse me.”
“What?!” Tiffany still wasn’t paying attention; she had caught of an article shockingly titled ‘Can exercise make you fat?’ and had gasped. Was everything she had been told about exercise a lie?
“So rude! First your Pokemon does this to my hair, and now—”
“Oh don’t be silly,” Tiffany interjected with her well-practiced line. She looked the woman straight in the eye. “Your hair looks totes stylish.”
The woman was thoroughly unconvinced. “I highly doubt that.”
“No, honestly.” Tiffany pointed at a random person nearby. “Just ask them and they’ll tell you the same thing.”
The woman, for whatever reason, decided to do just that. She made one last huffing sound and marched straight up to the stranger and asked them about her hair; hair that had been frizzed up into a horrific afro and even had a lolly rapper stuck to the top of it. Apparently Mo was starting to get into accessorising.
From behind the woman, Tiffany waved at the stranger to catch their attention, then tried to make hand signs which said something like, “Please tell her her hair is nice. Please. Please. Pleeeeeeease.” In other words, there was a double thumbs up and a lot of praying motions.
the stranger tiffany was waving at wasn't exactly a stranger as it was someone who wasn't as easily noticed in the area. it was ikram.
upon noticing who it was -- a friend, and friends should always help friends -- ikram grinned, and nodded at the lady. "looks good," she said, without blinking, "you should tell your current stylist that they're trash and you've found a better one now."
she discreetly flashed tiffany a thumbs-up. her chimchar mimicked her actions as well.
Well, that confused the woman, who had been so sure that a stranger would compare her to a Flaaffy. She just… patted it. Ikram must have been convincing enough, since the woman, after saying a small “Oh” and a thank you, left – presumably to talk to her current stylist.
Tiffany made an effort to stay out of the woman’s line of sight until she had left, but as soon as the cow had exited the paddock, Tiffany rushed over to her saviour and gave her a hug. “Ikram? I didn’t expect to see you here! Thank you so much for getting her off my back!”
She let go. “How long have you been in Nerio for—oh, you didn’t buy anything overpriced from the tourist area, did you?”
ikram hugged tiffany back, smiling. "me neither," said ikram to her friend, "but i'm glad i was around to save you from an early demise!" she glanced at the lady as she left. it sure was going to be a really dark day if she had exploded in anger and stormed off. but now: crisis averted! all-clear and ready to go!
"only for a while," said ikram, glancing around her. "tourist area? where's that?"
she hadn't the foggiest what tiffany was referring to. ikram hadn't been long in the city, after all. (she also had no intention of buying anything, because she had no-one to gift them to.)
Who knew what a peeved off middle-aged lady was capable of. Hell hath no fury like a woman with her expensive hairdo ruined.
Tiffany was a bit baffled that Ikram didn’t know where the tourist area was, but then she remembered that, like the gambling hole, it had an actual name. “Vesta City Square? Well, that’s the main part that everyone knows about. It has, like, everything but it’s such a tourist trap though. Although, trainers and that do like the Department Store for some reason.”
According to the sales, Soda Pop was the next big thing.
vertigo you just had to add that sad line at the end didn’t you? :c
"vesta city square," ikram tested the name on her tongue, and figured that she had heard of it before. every city square seemed like they were littered with people out to make a quick buck. "but i guess the department store can't really rip you off?"
she glanced in the general direction of the store, and watched crowds of people rush in and out. well, she supposed they didn't need to rip people off to earn lots of money from them. half the stuff in there was probably branded.
(soda pop? hell yeah soda pop.)
"well, we're not trainers, tiff!" said ikram, brightly, "so we shouldn't go to the same ol' places like the department store. maybe we could hit up an arcade, or ... or an amusement park!"
dizzy (( yes c: now let's get this story movin' ))
“Definitely not.” Tiffany spoke very knowingly of the department store despite not going there as often as she probably should. “They have to sell for the price they’ve labelled, or else they’d probably, like, get in a lot of trouble or something.”
Tiffany’s eyes widened at the mention of the arcade, and then when the amusement park was mentioned, her entire face changed. The amusement park! Of course! How had she not thought of that already?!
“Yes! Yes, yes, yes! Let’s go there!” She had to pause to look around and remember where the amusement park was, roughly, in bearing with where they were.* It was a simple enough task, but then there was the question of how they would get there and which route was the easiest, safest and fastest, and then there…
Or… Tiffany blinked. She had completely forgotten about that. “Do you mind doing the thing?” she asked Ikram. “The teleport thing? It’s just it’d be so much quicker that way.” At the mention of ‘that way’ she pointed roughly at where she guessed the amusement park was.
"legal considerations, yes," said ikram, displaying a certain level of knowledge, "and they also have suppliers to answer to if the products don't really sell. it's a bit complicated, so let's not get into that." she didn't want to think about things in the middle of a crowded city square.
"the teleport thing -- oh, right!" she knew the psychic sign, didn't she? she could always use it again, just like she had in the forest. ikram hoped she wouldn't get into trouble for it, though. (maybe there was an equivalent of the magical law enforcement squad here. ikram didn't know if there was, but it never hurt to be careful.) she looked around, before focusing in the general direction of 'that way.'
she drew her styler and took tiffany's hand.
"here we go!"
ikram drew the psychic sign. the psychic sign manifested as teleport!
Ll0beNUc 1-50 amusement park, aww yeah! 51-60 front seats of a rollercoaster, heck yeah! 61-80 casino entrance, wait what? 81-100 in the middle of mctauros, um okay ...
(I’m actually wondering about that now. The rangers do get a lot of power and power does corrupt…)
They were so close yet so far to appearing in the awesome location of the front seats of a rollercoaster, but alas that much cool would be too much for the dice gods to handle and instead the pair ended up at…
“Well…” Tiffany looked up at the casino, her free hand on her head. Again teleporting had made her dizzy, but she could clearly make out where they were. “I guess it’s an adult’s amusement park?” Except with less awesome rollercoasters and more money-sucking, soul-drenching games.
Tiffany turned around in the street, nearly circling 360 degrees, as she looked for the amusement park. Sure enough, the tip of a rollercoaster and that really scary drop ride thing could be seen in the distance. “You want to try again?” she asked Ikram, pointing at the drop ride thing which was easiest the tallest ride in the amusement park.
