This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

the clefairy was back. this time it also brought along a friend. the metagross from before was gone. now it was replaced by a pachirisu from hell, with its darkened eyes hollow and filled with nothing but death.
the clefairy decided to put on a show. with its disarming voice, it screamed, sending sound waves echoing throughout the area.
come one come all, it shrieked. come get your daily dose of death!
:pachirisu:

The screeching was enough to nearly make him stumble, but instead he froze in place, wincing despite himself. His Totodile bristled, and the Cubone looked understandably put off.
…
What the hell sort of announcement was that. Raza gritted his teeth. Scourge were hated enough without adding a ridiculous flare for the dramatic on top of it all. At the very least, it didn’t take long to hunt down the two offenders. They might not have seemed particularly threatening, given their fluffy and/or rotund preferences, but they were infected and deranged. Raza felt a thrum of excitement at the prospect of wiping them both off the face of the earth.
Even though it's two on two, the odds really are not in Raza's favor. He knows from experience just how vicious and abnormal the Scourge are. It did not take many to rip his full team to pieces, after all. He didn't even think to falter in his attack. Both his partner and assistant pokemon stepped forward at his nod. Everything in him calmed, becoming eerily calm. And then he smiled.

Sabina narrowed her eyes at Raza. He hadn't frozen or fled, as traditional beliefs might have dictated he would have at the sight of the scourge. She wished she could have gotten some sort of heart monitor on him, at the least, before he engaged the scourge, but she hadn't wanted to risk him sending her off. Then she would have just had to sneak back and watch and it would have been tiresome.
ooh, a ranger. oh yes it had seen that before! the pachirisu hissed and snapped at the pacification sign, before decidedly ignoring it. its previous partner had done that before! it knew what it did! gnashing its fangs together, the pachirisu lunged while the clefairy continued to sing its melodious song of doom.
"nyaaaaaahahahahhahahaha!" sang the clefairy, "riririririri!"
death is just around the corner, kiddies!!

Raza was oblivious to Sabina’s presence. She’d been tailing him through the forest and he’d, essentially, ignored her entirely. It hadn’t seemed to matter anyway, since she seemed to have some strange ability to read the majority of his thoughts - it made the need to actually speak virtually obsolete. He was more than okay with that.
This clefairy’s song was really grating on him though, making his blood boil even more. It set his jaw and frayed his nerves. He smiled more. Yes, death was imminent. He’d do his best to make sure it was the scourge that met a bloody end before he did.
If anything became apparent to Sabina in the throbbing insanity now pushing on Raza’s skull, it was this - he had no intention of fleeing, even if he was going to lose, even if he was going to die.

Sabina's eyes lit up at Raza's thoughts. Very, very interesting. He wasn't a psychological marvel, exactly, but he was definitely of more fun to observe than some mewling terrified wreck in the face of the scourge.
Carefully noting down in her reports exactly what she'd picked up from his thoughts, Sabina then eased a small handheld camera out of her bag and began filming the battle.

the clefairy watched on as the pachirisu stared straight into the sign of doom. no amount of wailing around persuaded the squirrel to look away. with its peaceful instincts intensified, the pachirisu had no intention of attacking. and so -- all the attacks battered it one after the other. the squirrel didn't even squeak; all it did was look at the totodile and pachirisu pitifully, as if asking: 'why are you two attacking me?'
the pink pokémon wasn't as forgiving, though. it wailed and shrieked and stomped around before walking up to the totodile to slap it.
and maybe kiss it better, if it allowed it to. kisses made everything better.
Thankfully the Pachirisu wasn’t much of a threat any longer, but Raza pondered attacking it again for good measure. However, with that damn pink blob screeching and stomping about, it was hard to think straight. Well, that and the blood lust pushing against his temples. Time to take out the fluff ball.
Raza decided to focus on using the pacification sign, if only to keep the creature busy with dodging. He wasn’t sure that any of his other signs were worth the effort on a creature like this, at least not at his level. This was his very first scourge battle, after all. Perhaps it was best to stick to a simple strategy for now. Despite the grinning and obvious mental strain, Raza was surprisingly calm about his decisions in the heat of battle.
Totodile, on the other hand, was incredibly displeased. Why the hell was this thing getting in his face?? He shook his big-jawed head after the stinging slap - only to find the thing coming in with puckered lips! Eugh no thank you! He did not want a mouth full of infection anywhere near him!!
