This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

As Karimi scans and ponders and debates with herself, the deoxys is changing again. It camouflages with the ever-changing background, darkens and expands to twice its size. When the gloom clears, a new deoxys stands, eying its prey with the apathetic apprehension of a god to its subjects, doesn't speak a word. The psychic energy around it flares up like a flame, hungrily devouring the color that bleeds from the walls.
Black is the abscence of color, but white is the composition of all colors. An invisible void sits where the deoxys's core should be - it's hollow, it feels nothing, it says nothing because nothing needs to be said.
But some gestures are impossible to mask, and something, no matter how small, will always bleed through. When Karimi speaks, it shakes, ever so slightly, and the land gives a slight tremble in return, laughing in a tepid show of amusement at struggles which it believes to be futile.
she could send out another pokemon, it's true, but karimi was also convinced that the tellumo ruins were dirty cheaters that would probably send in a giratina or something to compensate. better to beat it at its own game.
at the same time, the whole color-aborbing thing is pretty freaky as shit. kind of cool as shit too, but nobody heard that from karimi.
karimi puffs out her cheeks. being laughed at by a real deoxys was one thing. being laughed at by a mirage is just uncalled for.

Now that the color has vanished, the room is pure white - sterile, like the type of thing only present in a hospital room, or some insane asylum. It becomes jarringly obvious who belongs here, who doesn't. The Deoxys's blackened form clashes with the presence of all color like charcoal on paper.
Its pledge of silence continues as it regards Karimi with an emotion that is unreadable, the appendages that still somewhat resemble arms expanding and contracting with every breath it takes.
she doesn't - can't take her eyes off the prize (a one-way ticket to losing her mind). karimi feels slightly disoriented by the monochrome color scheme, but she's gonna tear this fucker apart. she's going to tear this world apart, shred the seams until she can see the sky again. that beautiful blue sky full of promise.
Something dark, darker than the shadows themselves engulfs the Deoxys, pulling it into a state of semi-consciousness that is not exactly sleep, but a standing trance. A part of its mask melts to cover its eyes as they flutter shut, and the atmosphere in the room changes yet again. Behind the walls, there is the sound of shifting, like pieces of a puzzle rearranging themselves. Perhaps something is changing, the structure of the ruins, the layout of the current room remains static.
The ground beneath them trembles slightly, displeased.
karimi thinks that this is her chance. perhaps this is a chance to effect some change, assert some control over the current situation. defeating the deoxys might do it. that's how this sort of thing usually worked with a dungeon master. she observes what she can through the darkness.
her head is clear, so it doesn't matter if the rest of the room isn't. as long as she can find her own hand in front of her face, then everything can be okay.
When the deoxys wakes, the mask around its face disappears like an illusion that was never there to begin with. It exerts a pressure that makes the room's oxygen feel stifling, displeasure radiating from its stance.
The white has begun to bleed from the walls, and the rearranging of the walls grows louder, metal grating on metal. The quakes start to intensify, rumbling to the point where the deoxys wobbles once, then steps to the side to firmly balance itself, eyes impassive.
holy fuck. karimi feels the urge to cover her ears, and she gives in. smug bastard is probably enjoying this. the researcher stoops lower - closer to the ground, since she doesn't trust herself to keep her body upright, not as much as she did an hour ago.
the gardevoir seems to have broken her concentration, but only for a moment. within seconds, she is back into the fray. even in this blinding light, mary summons a ball of white magic before layering it with black magic. without both, they cannot win. she can only hope that everything will be over soon.

They say that sound is moot in the dreaming world, but only so much sound can be blocked before it becomes altogether irritating. The deoxys frowns and grumbles in its sleep like an old man that has yet to have his morning coffee.
From the side of its head forms a distinct pair of earmuffs that seem to be embedded into its hide, a permanent fixture.

toska thanks for letting me know! I'll keep that in mind for the future.

"into the darkness they go, the wise and the lovely."
somehow, an earmuffed deoxys is a less terrifying deoxys. the image is a little too human, and maybe that's the real reason why karimi should fear him. when karimi sees something human, her first reaction is to reach out for their hand. maybe that had been her failing all along.
her hands remain firmly at her sides where they belong.

The white of the room has begun to dissolve, by this point, evaporating but still clinging to the wall like a thin cloak of mist. When the rumbling finally ceases and everything is silent again, a thin ray of sunlight penetrates through the cracks and illuminates the room in a soft glow of the forgotten, outside world.
The deoxys's body begins to crumble. Chunks of alien flesh fall off of it while its eyes snap open of their own accord, sharp and menacing even though they should be closed, in slumber. I'll see you again. It snarls at Karimi. Don't think you've seen the last of me.
It falls like that, glowing brighter, spitting threats that are inaudible to the human ear while the room melts back into a semblance of what it once was. When the last of the mist clears and the blue sky is visible again, a script of unknown is scrawled across the four walls, and the stone tablet is gone.
Receiving isn't always the result of being worthy. Those who deserve power will not succumb to its rule. The bright, pulsing light around the deoxys's remains fades and the Ralts remains in its place, craning its head up at Karimi with that same look of bored apathy, hints of curiosity mixed in its wake.
Do you understand? The atmosphere of the room has changed again - a sharp, stifling mixture of expectations and lingering doubt.
her breath hitches when the light from the cracks reaches her. the sky. she can see the sky again. it's out there, right there, and karimi will make sure that it is never forgotten. she cannot imagine being alive without being able to see it in front of her.
"i'll be stronger next time." she looks at the crumbling relic of a mirage. "this world is worth that much." she extends her arms, as if she were forming a cross with her body, except she is not nailed to anything. karimi breathes in the tellumo air. it's a tad dusty, but it's good enough.
karimi looks down at the ralts. a test, huh. that was kind of fitting, she supposes.
"heh. don't worry, little guy. i don't want to be ruled by anything." she is suddenly aware of the weight of the longsword on her back. it had been rumbling the whole time, but its presence seemed muted in deoxys' realm. well. that would have been helpful. that's not what she wanted, though. she didn't want the anvil's power for this. she wanted her own. "...not by my emotions...or my expectations. anyway, i'm not the only one who's riding on my success."
the gardevoir looks on with approval. <i will follow you always> citrus
Everything stops. There is a long - longer than it needs to be - silence as the ralts stands, frozen to the spot. The clouds halt, the wind dies down, the dust hovers in the air and catches off the sun's glow to create a shine that is never quite visible. Time slows, almost halts altogether.
Then, in a burst, the clock begins to tick again, a gale rushes past with dead leaves in its wake, and the ralts smirks. It raises two paws in the air and the the unknown script flashes bright before peeling off of the wall and gathering in the center of the room in some formless puddle, slowly taking the form of a small sphere.
The entire process takes seconds, but it feels like much, much longer.
The gardevoirite glows purple, hovering up and in front of Karimi's hand, in expectation. It's yours. The Ralts nods its head, and something in its face softens to an emotion that doesn't exactly suit its form. You're stronger than you think. I hope you remember that in the future, Karimi.
It flickers once, twice, a third time. Perhaps its the trick of the eye, but a figure that mirrors the gardevoir itself appears for a fraction of a second - there are differences, small and invisible with the exception of its dress, which pools around its feet in tendrils.
When it vanishes, the ralts is gone, and the room is silent, nothing but another dead end of the ruin that serves no further purpose.
