This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

She'd dragged herself to the lake to wash the blood off her hands, her face, but now that Thalia was here, she couldn't find it within herself to make the effort. Red flaked and dried all over her, but the idea of staggering forward into the water was unbearable. It required something she no longer possessed. She thought if she went down into those still waters, she might never rise.
She thought--it didn't matter what she thought. The woman's corpse was a few yards behind her and Thalia dry-heaved over the placid surface of the lake. She squeezed her eyes shut. The crystal, hung on its pendant, swung out and swung back, thumping against her chest. She wondered what she was going to do with the body. Then she didn't wonder anymore.
iker feels like it's one of those days, back when he'd try to wake his sister up in the morning and he'd find her with some sketchy dude in her bed. there was a lot of yelling from meira, back then.
except this body that his electrike had nearly stumbled over is most certainly dead. or really close to it, anyway, with that amount of blood. he also has a feeling that he's going to come off with a lot more than a ringing ear.
jax starts barking before iker can shush him. so much for sneaking back to the other path.
Thalia was on her feet in an instant when the electrike started barking, eyes wide. The sight of the blue fur had her lowering her fists, but un-clenching them just reminded her of the gore coating her knuckles.
But there was someone here now. She set the weakness aside, wrenched her gaze from her hands.
"Not the best of times," she said in a false, glossy voice. "Certainly could have picked better."
She strode over to the body and tossed it over her shoulder. It, not her. It certainly wasn't a her anymore, although it had once been a woman with short blonde hair, heavily built and dressed like a schoolteacher. Now it was only a ruin, with a face that had been broken bloody against the stone, and one arm flapping, held on only by the grace of physics.
Thalia tossed it into the lake. It sank with a splash, red rippling up to tint the clear waters. A flurry of motion beneath the surface indicated that perhaps some carvanha had been hungry.
"uhhh yeah, you go have your fun, i guess." it's almost too surreal for iker, like something that could only really happen in the dream world. it takes him a few seconds to realize that his jaw is slack and he's still staring at that place where the body had disappeared. "i guess i'll be getting going now? have a nice long life, maybe."
the electrike is less smart than his ranger partner. he charges forward with a thunder wave
Thalia started to dance backwards out of the way of thunder wave, realized there was only water that way, and ended up tumbling rather ungracefully to the side. Sparks crackled and buzzed an inch past her head, and there was something about that voice--
"You're Iker," she called out. "Iker Casillas from Bacchus. I uh, used to see you sometimes. When I bothered to show up for school. Please don't have your electrike kill me."
"if you die from a level sixteen electrike, then you might just be the first." he can't really stop himself from having a smart mouth, even during all this craziness. "jax, listen to the nice lady - we're going to live long, fruitful lives together, remember?"
iker thinks back to the days when he even attended school. he didn't have a lot of good memories. in fact, he didn't have many schoolyard memories at all, seeing that he was homeschooled for most of his life. "...i guess i musta made quite an impression over a year's time. so are you right now, actually. jax doesn't kill you if you don't kill us, yeah?" again, not that he would be doing much killing as an underleveled electrike.
he wonders if he should ignore the elephant in the room. mind you, it is a rather large elephant. and a potentially fatal one, if thalia decides to change her mind.
he's always been too stupidly curious for his own good.
"so uh. did she try to steal your coin case or something?" 2tsunz
She rubbed her palms clean against her thighs, and then scowled when she realized she had just gotten flakes of blood all over her leggings.
"No," she said. "She tried to kill me. She was an agent. I killed her Kingdra, but she didn't run like the rest of them always do after that happened. Maybe she couldn't."
TEg60RyE <50 iker has even heard of hades agents since he left proserpina
fair enough. not that iker really had anyone who wanted to kill him before, so he would't know. not unless you counted scourge. he doesn't count the scourge.
"...that sounds pretty swell. i... don't suppose that you tore her limb from limb?" at least, it seemed like it, from all the blood on thalia's body. "don't you have pokemon to do that for you?"
She looked rather unperturbed at the question. Having someone else around was good. It grounded her, got her out of her head. Thalia crouched by the edge of the lake and rinsed her hands briefly before splashing her face.
