This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

GRAND OPENING !

she was perched on a boulder, sitting cross-legged on the top. athena was sitting by her side, eyes attentive on the edges of the trees around them. they were here for a bit of training - harder than they were used to, of course, but that was the point of the excercise today. her pokemon had gotten too comfortable with just the center and mock dream battles - she needed them to have experience in real life, where every step needed to be calculated, mindful of slipping up or being knocked out completely.
verte waited for a wild pokemon, as she'd been doing for the last half-hour - back straight, hands on her knees, quietly, patiently. athena was curled up in what sunlight hit the rock, but she'd unfurl herself the moment an opponent appeared.
the gloom wobbled uncertainly from side to side, peering up at the figure on the boulder. he wasn't exactly sure what it was, or what it was doing there, but he knew that he was mad.
(the bellossom down the lane had rejected him once again. every day he came to her door and laid flowers at her window, freshly picked and sprinkled with the morning dew. but she would have nothing to do with him. she'd rather waste her time with that frivolous lilligant, whispering into each other's fronds and giggling.)
he screwed up his face. first this morning's indignities, and now this! an intruder in his favorite place to sun bathe. the winter had been harsh on all the grass types, and he longed for as much solar energy as he could get.
he spewed acid at the lump perched upon the boulder.
it wasn't long before a pokemon showed up, but the pokemon was an unexpected one. verte had known that this was a forest and that grass-type pokemon were the most common here, but really, a gloom? she sighed as she ducked under the acid and watched athena uncurl herself and launch down the rock onto the ground, ready to square off against her opponent.
ugh. he missed the days before the scourge. back when people had been properly respectful of wild pokemon and given them the berth they deserved. now all these trainers just tramped wherever they wanted and didn't care in the slightest if they kicked up a nest of pidgey or not. oooh, thank god it's just some wild pokemon! i thought they were scourge, i was scared~
gloom would re-teach them the meaning of respect.
gloom hit by faint attack
alas, with no trainer to guide him, gloom had no idea none of his attacks would work on zorua. poor gloom.

verte didn't care about the opinions of pokemon, mainly because she couldn't understand them, but if she did she still wouldn't care. if they wanted to be listened to they should have trainers, not stay out in the wild.

none of his attacks had worked. that was impossible! he was the strongest gloom in the forest, the mightest grass type for miles around! (except for that damned lilligant.) the gloom redoubled his efforts.

athena yawned. then started paying attention, because she didn't want to be frozen in a compromising position. that'd just be embarassing, and her trainer would never let her off the hook for something like that.
...it didn't work.

the gloom cackled to himself. was he not the lord of all he surveyed? the zorua had foolishly underestimated his might, and now she paid the ultimate price. yes, her defeat at his hands would be long and harrowing. he would enjoy every minute of it.
athena would, if she could have moved, clawed the look on the gloom off his face. his cackling was annoying, and his smell was just atrocious.
ah, but she was still paralyzed, though. if only some trainer could get off her ass and actually give her a paralyze heal, she might actually win this battle. but noooo, that trainer had to be a slave driver and refuse to make things easier by using medicine!
athena cursed her luck on trainers.

despite himself, gloom was tiring. he struggled onwards. he was merely exhausted from his exertions in crushing this zorua like the bug she was! yes, that was the only possible explanation he could think of. when he had finished grinding her into the ground, he would treat himself to a nice long nap. a nap sounded very nice right now...
the zorua, for her part, was just glad that the dice gods were in favor of her this round and let her off the paralysis hook. finally! now she could exact revenge on this pathetic gloom! bwahahahahaha!!!

pride went before the fall--and what a fall it was. regardless of his antics in this thread, the gloom was something of a titan in his patch of ceres forest, and when he fell--as all emperors must--he fell with a crash. the earth seemed to shudder beneath his weight, the sun dimming.
or perhaps that was all in his head, a fleeting image as he tipped face-first into the ground. it was hard to tell.
finally, the devil itself had died. athena did a happy dance around her fallen foe before collapsing.
verte just shook her head before returning her pokemon, giving the gloom a thoughtful glance before tossing a pokeball at it. a bellossom would make a good addition to her current team.
