from the muta boathouse, iker had been sent to the heart of scourge territory with a lunch cooler. it didn't just contain food, but also a stash of max potions and virus balls. the rangers in pax lake really weren't fucking around.

we're just trying to make sure that tam doesn't forget to actually eat every now and then. poor guy.
so little red riding hood sets off with a manectric, a salamence, and a granbull into scourge territory to see grandma tam.
tam had been expecting a visitor. this fact didn't mean that he looked as if he was prepared for a visitor. when iker arrived, the senior ranger was chewing on the end of a pen, staring at a blank piece of paper like it might start writing itself.
he looked up at iker and smiled. when he spoke it was in a pitched whisper, although with evident and sincere good cheer: "made your way here okay?"
he dug through the cooler with relish. any food that wasn't dried meat and fruit or iron-tough bars of granola was good food for tam, warm or cold. that was the problem with hunting scourge: you couldn't just skin and butcher the corpses to make a meal when you were done. even their corpses were wasteful.
he frowned, and then took a bite out of a tuna sandwich.
"thanks," he muffled through a mouthful, and then swallowed. setting the sandwich aside with a regretful glance, he folded up the letter he'd been working on and slipped it into an envelope.
"i know they just sent you out here, and i'm sorry, but how would you feel about running an errand for me?"
"sure." iker figures that he's probably headed in the same direction anyway. as far as humans were concerned, muta boathouse is the last that pax has for civilization. "i don't really mind." especially if it meant that a couple of rangers in pax were going to owe him a favor. pax lake was a good place to have acquaintances.
"it's for olivia," he said. "about the amberwell's situation. nothing i'd trust to send by pidgeot, or even c-gear, or else i would. and you were the first kid they sent out here."
he flashed iker a smile and then dug back into his tuna sandwich, eyes scanning the distant horizon as he ate.
iker looks at ranger tam a bit dubiously, since he's basically entrusting such an important document to a mystery ranger whom he probably knows nothing about.
whatever, it's just...paper. and he could always conjure the fairy sign to fly him out of pax after he moves past all this fog.
"will do." iker adjusts his hat and turns back towards the general direction of the exit. he might not have been able to see too well at this time of evening, but jax had a good nose. he'll see them through.
The pack of scourge watched and waited as the new person made his way to Ranger Tam's, and then made his way back out.
They knew Tam, feared him as much as scourge could fear. Their hivemind thrummed with shared knowledge. Tam was notprey, Tam had claws. Tam was no easy meat.
They didn't know this one, however. And his manectric looked yummy. As Iker made his way back through Lake Pax, the gang of scourge emerged from the tall grass, intent on having a real dinner tonight.
