This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

the pokeball rolls across the concrete floor, its occupant safely sealed inside.
the smoochum is surprised when she is saved by her rival's toxic fumes, but she does not complain. after what had happened to the meditite, she'll take any advantage she can, pride be dammed. maybe, just maybe she can win this. she waits for the gas to dissapate again before rushing in with a pound, eager to take advantage of the elekid's distraction. in the back of her mind, she hopes fervently for her wish. she allows herself to imagine that she can win against these intruders, even if it's only for the moment.
that hope doesn't last long. the water pulse hits her directly, and her soaked body falls to the floor, trembling from the thunder wave.
the swift is far too fast for the stunky to dodge, and he doesn't even have time to retaliate before collapsing in a faint.
meanwhile, the gas fully dissapates.

Regina let out a breath, and tossed a pokeball at the smoochum. It was absorbed in a red light, which Amos picked up for her. The scientist turned to Thalia, weakly, an emerald wizard in her labcoat. "I guess maybe next time, I should just stick to the side-lines and watch," she said, laughing and embarressed.
Another guy was climbing over the crates. He'd directed the Skarmory that had saved Thalia's eevee, and he was just as scruffy as the little furry demon. Definitely another tough trainer who knew what he was doing.
"Hey! There aren't any other Pokemon in here, right?" she shouted, waving her arms so that he'd come over. She turned to Thalia as they all came together, and she asked "Do you know him? I-is your eevee okay?"
J glanced towards regina, and took her waving arms as a sign that he was to go over to them. and so he did, making his way over crates before he finally touched ground again. wing had scaled the obstacles with ease, and made its landing by J's side. the creature eyed the quartet of pokémon and humans, before turning away in disinterest.
My eevee," The eevee slunk around the boxes to make his way back to Thalia, sitting at her feet. He was wavering, but that proud no-nonsense look was glued to his face. As if he'd show a hint of pain. Thalia sighed and recalled him into his pokeball.
"He'll be fine," she said to Regina. "And you weren't that bad yourself, you know?" She glanced at the other trainer who had appeared. Kinda cute, if she had time for that sort of thing. Which she didn't. "Thanks for the help...?" she trailed off, at a loss for his name.cold volume
"Yo," Regina said, coming around from behind Thalia. She inspected him from behind her wire-rims. Her Elekid huffed over to peer from behind her legs (elekid hiding behind regina hiding behind thalia), crackling uncertainly near his plugs. He looked up at the new-comer blandly like that kid that sits in the back of the class.
"J," said the trainer, hands in his pockets. he didn't feel like they owed him anything; it was all a part of the fight, all part of the chase. it didn't matter even if the roles had been reversed in the first place. (he may have minded a little, but he was aware of his strength and standing.)
Thalia was turning over her eevee's pokeball in her hands as Regina and tall dark handsome stranger talked, wondering the shortest path to the Pokemon Center from this desolate warehouse. In a move that arose completely from her own lack of attention, and was not at all a ham-fist attempt to reconcile two threads that contradicted each other thanks to the capricious god of liquid time, she missed him giving his name.
"I've gotta get this chump to the pokemon center," she said, looking back up. "Regina, though--I can't believe I met you here, we should definitely get together sometime?"cold volume

He was really cool in a thug sort of way. Had a familiar ring to her - the way he said it was nothin'. Had a Nerio quality, the city nonchalance. She looked at him curiously for an extra second, capturing his name in her mind like a pokedex. J huh. Names like J always stood for something else. She narrowed her eyes suspiciously for an instant while Thalia became distracted with her Pokemon's well-being.
"Oh-h sure!" Regina snapped awkwardly in response. "Y-yeah, since we're in the same town now, we'll probably find each other again. Small world," she laughed, waving bye as the busy-body trotted off.
Then she turned back to J. There was still some time to kill. "Why just 'J'? Are you a criminal or something? I mean no offense or anything - cuz I owe you and all that - But it's kind of a thing where I come from. Y'know, with the names."
vertigo , 2tsunz (yr pzing out right? to not conflict with yr made threads, yeah? Vertigo and i can go on from here if that's chill.)
as thalia left, J turned to regina, shrugging. did it matter that much to have a normal name? he grew up being called J by the people around him; he preferred it in a way. people didn't have to know his real name to have something to call him by. it wasn't much different from a random stranger on the street being called out and identified by their physical characteristics. a name was just that; a handle to identify someone by, just in case someone was wearing a similarly-colored shirt or happened to look vastly similar.
he shrugged again, having no real reply to regina. "what's your name? is it a criminal name?"

It was because J was an awful common nickname in her father's syndicate, as was 'L' and 'D' and all the other letter's of the alphabet. The systematization of such nicknames put her on edge, and she looked him up and down.
"My name is a normal name like anyone in a city would have. Your name is terribly short and simple - without meaning - it's just a single consonant. People don't just have simple names unless they're robotic." She pressed her pokedex to her cheek and tilted her head to the side, judging him. "My name's Regina. Reggie, sometimes too. It hardly sounds tough or secretive," she scoffed. "You're probably with Eos," she said, recalling his pokemon, "but even so, you never know what kind of people that desperate council will hire. How am I supposed to know if I don't ask -- which reminds me you didn't answer my question. Are you a criminal or what?"
J didn't take well to being accused a criminal; yes, he had the blood of a murderer running in his veins, but it did not mean that he was willing to do something along those lines. (he was capable of doing it, however.) thanatos rose in his chest and demanded he do something about it, but J resisted its words.
"names don't mean anything," said the trainer calmly, his dark eyes boring down unto regina and her rimmed glasses. sunshine sparkles could still be a criminal wanted all over the region; names were hardly a yardstick to measure one's personality by.
at the same time, he could have easily said that he was no criminal, and that he had committed no crimes in the past twenty-two years he had been alive for, but there was something about her words that made him balk. replying became a gargantuan task.
"i'm not. does it matter? are you going to inherit a large underground gang of thugs, or have you been involved in shady dealings yourself?"
J glanced away, eyes flashing, but regina couldn't see it.

She crossed her arms and looked at him like she was onto him. Then she looked away. Well, if he was going to play innocent, so would she. "Noo I'm not. No way. Duh, I'm not a in cahoots with anything, I'm Regina but I've lived long enough in Nerio to recognize it. And names mean everything if you ask me. Words have meaning...."
"You got any tattoos?" she asked suddenly, looking at him again like a sly, annoyingly tenacious lady. Because it did matter - to her. He looked like someone who might know her father. She didn't know. And she sure as hell wouldn't ask straight out. (At the same time, she probably didn't know how to ask.)
J was certain then, that after regina's failed attempt to answer a simple question, that she too had something to hide. he had no idea what, though. words can have meaning, they could have no meaning. it mattered not to the trainer and regina's questions were steadily increasing in idiocy.
This guy -- Regina finally tucked away her dex and looked back at the direction Thalia had walked off in. In another instant, she was back to pound a suspicious glare at J.
"You can tell me if you do. I owe you one, after all."
