This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

She laughed. "There's a story behind everything, I guess. Well I hope you get to be a hero, anyway. I guess the best heroes probably have the worst stories at the start."vertigo
"I don't know if it's justifying; I think that sometimes people need stories to survive. If this is just all pointless blood and death for nothing, if people died and it didn't mean anything--I think it's a lot harder to keep going, if that's the way the world is. And how can it ever get better? But if there's a rising action and a climax and there's a role for every person, then maybe we're something more than a bunch of kids thrown at something no one really understands. Maybe we're heroes, and maybe that means we can win."
She laughed again. "I know it sounds stupid. I guess there's not much else to think about down here."vertigo
J plodded on in silence, boots against rocky earth and nothing but small lamps to light the way at various intervals. they walked through alternating phases of light and darkness, until the trainer stopped, and spoke.
"Bacchus. Or what's left of it, I guess. I haven't lived there since I was 11, though. Like most other kids, I ran off the moment I could to be a pokemon trainer. Live the dream. I...only came back to Kohaku a few months ago.vertigo
he wasn't sure it that was sarcasm or a sincere comment, but let it pass anyway. the caverns continued to extend ahead, their rocky walls bearing down upon the two trainers.
words broke the silence between the two of them effortlessly. J had been accustomed to the silence though, and plodded on, seemingly deep in thought while in reality, he was trying to grasp the idea of reaching faraway nerio at the end of their little expedition.
"we'd be near to the scourge, right?" he said, then left it as such. he soon went back to amend his statement, finding it awkward as a standalone. "... no idea. gamble, maybe. you?"
She stroked her togepi's shell nervously, the pokemon looking affronted at the treatment.
"Gambling sounds fun," she echoed. "I heard the gym leader from Bacchus is in Nerio too. I don't know why she's there. I guess I want to find out."vertigo
