This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

"no. i'm just a poor league trainer with more badges than cash. there was a steakhouse in blackthorn i really wanted to eat at though, and sometimes i'd lurk outside their door and read the daily menu, tormenting myself."
"oh, yes." her mouth twisted. "my umbreon. i think he's quite sure that he's the trainer, and i'm a human he picked up off the street and takes care of. i mean, i'm not sure that he's not right, but it's still pretty pathetic to put up with."
"yeah it was. i guess he gave me the only one with spirit out of the bunch. why, your starter from cypress a nice little trained one that trotted at your heels and jumped when you said jump?"
"i never mentioned?" J realized he probably hadn't to thalia. "they said i had mine on me when i woke up and they took the liberty of vaccinating it while i was unconscious. so, no. didn't get it from cypress."
"no, you didn't ever tell me that," thalia said. "does your pokemon have any memory of what happened to you then, or who you were before? have you tried getting a lucario or a kirlia to talk to it? see if anything can get dug up?"
he had both a lucario and kirlia, and J wasn't sure if wing would comply to being pried mentally -- he still had his memory intact, even though no one knew the truth.
"... i'm not sure. wing had been in his pokéball the entire time."
"that's unfortunate," thalia said. "man, i can't believe they're making you work off your debt. that seems fucked up." she frowned. "capitalism, huh. what a mess."
