This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

delilah went to the sink, washing her face and cleaning herself off -- her stomach felt much better -- before staggering back to the bed and flopping on it, her limbs sprawling ... regardless of whether or not J happened to be in the way.
delilah rolled over. no, the light hurt her eyes. she flipped onto her other side. better, but she still needed ... something. the woman pulled the blanket toward her, tossing and turning.
J tugged the blanket back towards himself. delilah couldn't hog all of it. the both of them were on opposite sides of the bed and sharing a blanket was stupidly hard. especially if the other person was still in a hungover state.
J was actually glad for the strength difference. it made conquering blanket area easier. he tugged at it until he obtained a satisfactory amount of blanket, then curled up in it.
delilah was dragged along with the blanket as J rolled it up around him, refusing to relinquish her steadfast hold on it. delilah tugged ineffectually at the edges before sidling up against J-in-a-blanket, pulling whatever was left of the blanket toward her.
not comfortable, but it'd have to do. she tried to kick him.
J was kicked, but honestly, how much damage could delilah do against him?
the trainer had to resist the urge to kick her back. after a while it was getting rather uncomfortable to lie curled up with no room to move about. maybe he ought to get one of his pokémon to cut the blanket (and bed) in half. scyther would do a good job.
"this is ridiculous," he muttered, trying to turn around.
delilah's words fell on deaf ears. J preferred more blanket and less comfort sleeping than trying to accommodate someone else with a pitiful amount of blanket offered.
he rolled farther than he should have, and she wasn't smart enough to let go of the blanket. "fuck --" down they went. it was good that she landed on J, but the sudden movement set her head spinning. she groaned. "thanks."
... damn. delilah was heavy. her entire weight on him after falling off the bed had hurt. he hadn't managed to roll away in time, thanks to being trapped in the blanket.
"you're welcome," J managed to grunt. at least he'd achieved what he set out to do.
