This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

"that sounds ... normal." she half expected him to say something way out there, but hot chocolate was definitely as mundane as you got. "why not?" she rolled over. "they have it around here?"
"yeah, but ..." ugh fuck it. "fine. if i get tripped out as hell, you're taking responsibility." she took the spoon and downed the powder, gagging on reflex.
J watched the powder go down and nodded solemnly. if everything went as planned, it would jolt delilah's brain and give her a jump-start out of being hungover. it had always been a reliable remedy for him through the years.
since he was like ten, yeah. bitter powder cured everything.
the haze was slowly retreating, and the woman shuddered. "okay. okay i won't think about what was in that." she grabbed her own jacket, straightening her dress and fixing the mess that was her hair before heading toward the door. "let's just go."
J wasn't about to tell her what was in the powder, either. it was a trade secret, after all. bitter powder was great because no one knew what made up the powder -- outside those who actively made them for sale.
"great," J said in his usual manner, and exited the hotel.
the bar was as empty as it was yesterday, despite having changed its appearance to reflect the new signage that said 'family restaurant'. J sank into a booth seat, and found that the menu looked fishy, because half of it was something flambé'd in some alcohol.
she followed J into the restaurant that was conspicuously silent, sitting down opposite him and taking a look at the menu. "what to get," she mused aloud.
all the alcoholic options looked great, but she doubted it was the best idea. "where's the hot chocolate?"
