This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Delilah returns half-dead Ose to its pokeball, then smiles. (As if he can see it.) "Thanks," she says, surprised to find that she actually means it. "It was a good battle." Irritating at the beginning, but worthwhile. "You know, I have a few fighting pokemon myself."
"Oh, fighting Pokémon? Are you a fighting specialist too?" Zhan asks, interest piqued. He took a few nimble steps towards Delilah, and if he could see, one would have thought he were examining her carefully. "Ah, I smell a fighting spirit in you, yes!" he shouted, very excited by this discovery. "Do you mention this to me, perhaps, because you wish to train with us?" In the Cura Village dojo, there was always room for another student.
Meanwhile, a trainee ran forward carrying a Focus Badge, the TM of Brick Break, a Black Belt, and $4500 in cold hard cash. Being a trainer certainly paid off, literally.
She takes the prizes with grace, chuckling. "You could ... say that." She hasn't yet run her full fighting team, but perhaps she would someday. Delilah steps back as he shouts -- oh arceus he's loud -- and laughs. "I guess you caught me." Her eyes scan the room, then land back on Zhan. "I figure if I'm going to fight, I'd have to know how to as well. It's useless if only my pokemon are worth anything."
"Hm! Yes! You understand then," Zhan stated, clearly quite excited by this new discovery of Delilah's attitude towards training Pokémon. "A trainer fights alongside their Pokémon in spirit, and their body must also be strong! They must train with their Pokémon, and through training, they will understand them more. It is the bonds between human and Pokémon that allow a Pokémon to draw strength from." The elderly man nodded thoughtfully, as if sinking into deep thought about his past. It was all panoramic field-racing, mountain-climbing, waterfall-meditating, and whatnot, and though people had shaken their heads at Zhan, he believed it had all truly paid off.
"Then you understand," he said softer this time, nodding gently, only to raise his voice once again. "Yes! You start training tomorrow morning, haha!" He was not about to take "no" for an answer.
