The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

this whole thing is beginning to look like an extended cut of mean girls, which sophia had watched once and found it...admittedly droll. except iskander wasn't, so maybe this wasn't an extended cut of mean girls. or maybe physis just doesn't have the same sense of humor anymore. that could be possible.
"...or a simple conference in the dream world could be held."
that would certainly bring the total cost of iskander's precious resources to zero.
"hm. strange. aaron had said the same," said iskander, but the person he was thinking of wasn't quite a boy. in fact, he had seemed to be around his age -- "but it wasn't a young boy. he did look like me, though. it's strange, but i haven't had time to investigate further."
iskander had heard of mordecai (and knew bits and pieces of what he did), but kept his face relatively interested in this new similar-faced person. did he really have a common face? iskander wouldn't have thought so a year ago, but things had changed rather furiously and quickly in the given amount of time. "in that case," said iskander, "we have met different people. or in my case, the person i have heard of is a different one."
he wondered if he should discuss this at length with physis.
"i heard that his name was J. however, this child -- with a brother named mordecai, i doubt his little brother would simply be named J."
physis does not bother to point out that iskander runs around as delta, and a girl named sophia runs around as physis. then there was the whole zahir/batin thing, which was a lot less complicated in her head since this was back when batin was little more than a simple alias.
