The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

this place gave him the creeps. he held nana to his chest, holding the espeon like a rag doll. she was limp like one anyway, concentrating instead on watching for anything in their path. thank god no one was here to see grayson look like such a girl, clutching an espeon for dear life.
nana flicked her ear, lightly grazing grayson's cheek. it'll be fine. she mewed, pawing at his arm lightly. her paw pad was surprisingly soft, probably from hitching a ride on his shoulder more than walking herself, the lazy bastard.
who knows how it had managed to get in a cave of all places. there was absolutely no wind here, not even a breeze to lift the jumpluff's body off of the ground. so she waddled on the floor as quickly as she could, desperately trying to find an exit of the cave. and although her body wasn't flying, her spirit was. this was, in truth, a nice cave, even if she shouldn't be here. it had a nice open space for hopping and twirling.
but as the jumpluff continued, the cave became noticeably threatening. although there were many creatures trying to...erm, gobble her up, a nice rhydon joined her, a knight in shining army, to escort her safely across the cave. king

the little jumpluff was something of a strange sight in the caverns. nana leaped out of his arms to trot over, head tilting at the more normal sight of a rhydon. "well then, little jumpluff." grayson kneeled down, offering a hand to to the small grass type. "what are you doing in here? little thing like you should be in the forest."
the nice and calm forest, where nothing could happen... of course.
grayson glanced over to the rhydon, keeping his stance low and unimposing. he certainly didn't want to get trampled.
the jumpluff was about to try and communicate with grayson when her rhydon partner let out a very loud shriek. a dismangled smoochum toddled out from behind the rock pokemon. she cried out in agony too, as if to say "mommy, mommy, where are you?" but momma was in some virus ball out there, slowly bleeding out.
the rhydon's eyes darkened and he let out a roar and opened his mouth, gazing hungrily at the small purple feline. they didn't move-yet. king

grayson grabbed the jumpluff by the cottonball, rushing backwards. nana immediately darted backwards to get some distance. "lock and ankh, help me out here!" lock burst out of her pokeball with a harsh cry, while ankh let out an explosive roar. nana honestly wouldn't do too hot out there, especially against the smoochum. grayson let go of the jumpluff, setting her down beside him. he could tell by her colouration that she wasn't vaccinated. "stay safe." he murmured, blocking her with his foot.

the jumpluff nodded her head and waddled behind grayson and friends.

meanwhile, jumpluff has become quite interested in battle. she cries out happily and excitedly, as if to cheer grayson and his pokemon on.
