This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

The journey to the Anvil had not exactly been an epic that would forge legend and myth out of history. In fact, it had taken less than two hours. Still, they were here and that was what mattered. As she drew closer to the abandoned forge, Thalia looked at J.
"I don't suppose you know anything about blacksmithing?"
"Kids who grew up in Nerio would probably know more than me. Bacchus had the Artifice. All I know is that while the Anvil would give you a weapon beyond human imagining, it always demanded a steep price as well. But that was years ago, when the world was younger."
Thalia flushed. She'd seen her share of Pokewood movies as well. Not that they'd unduly influenced her development, or her style of talking at dramatic events. No.
"You're right," she said. "If this really works, we're going to have to be careful we don't give too much up." She circled the Anvil and wiped a hand across her forehead. It was too fucking hot in here, that was for sure. There was sweat dripping down the back of her neck and it itched.
She picked up her own rock to toss at the anvil idly.
nothing happened with the rock. it was odd. J approached it, and noted that it was made of steel. as a steel-type specialist, he felt compelled to do something about it.
J lightly blew on the surface.

nothing happened. the temperature had climbed more than a few degrees by now.
J approached the Anvil and nothing happened. Except maybe it got even hotter. Thalia crossed her arms. All they'd been doing this entire time, for the past year was nothing, it felt like. Nothing except hold ground, nothing more than the very least they could do and have it count as "not losing."
She kicked the anvil out of frustration.

Nothing happened except that her foot throbbed. Thalia slid down to sit at the base of the anvil.
as he peered over the anvil once again, something reacted. a symbol of sorts, coated in flames emerged -- it bore some sort of resemblance to a large beast. quadruped, but J couldn't tell what it was.
"thalia," he said, poking the icon.

he looked up after that, and saw moltres. J shifted in his parka. he wasn't overheating, unlike thalia. this was strange enough, but the legendary's image was stranger. was it the guardian of the anvil?
"who are you?"
