This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Well, that didn’t sound horribly boring. Just averagely boring. But why talk about the boring things you could do to help researchers out when you could talk about scourge? Felizia was shocked to say the least.
“You. Do. Not.” Oh hell, he totally did, didn’t he? Holy blargh, Grayson spoke about it so casually too, as if killing a scourge Pokemon for its corpse was something he did every day, like it was something he did on the way back from lunch. “I can’t believe you. You act like it’s no big deal, ‘popping out’ to fight those monsters.”
This was so unfair. How come she was scared of them and he wasn’t? Totally unfair.

grayson shrugged, downing the rest of his sandwich. "well, bacchus isn't too far from here. it gets dull just breeding all the time. i go out there with a guy named ignatius. he likes the pokedex entries."
he ate a little more in silence. "it makes me try hard to vaccinate my pokemon. it would really... really suck if one of them got infected."
Felizia frowned at her steamed bun. There it was, Bacchus again. Of course. Why would it have been anything else.
“If you’re bored you could always get a hobby. Y’know, like a normal, sane person would.” She mumbled that last part. Oh crap, she mumbled the punch line. As if to make up for it, she said loudly, “Trust a researcher to have a weird name! You’d better hope he’s not secretly a crazy scientist.”
She didn’t respond to Grayson’s last comment at all. Of course not. Who wants to talk about someone’s Pokemon possibly getting infected? Who wanted to be reminded that that could very well happen?

grayson laughed, for all he knew ignatius could be plotting his death. "what, do you have a hobby? i wouldn't count getting plowed over by a gogoat running by. anything else?"
Grayson laughed. Good. Looks like the crazy scientist line worked. Felizia was going to add that this scientist may even have easy access to chloroform, but instead have to fabricate a hobby out of thin air. Something believable…
Nah. Screw that.
“I dunno, getting trampled and surviving is one of my biggest talents. It’s right up there with mooching cool things off some fisherman guy.” Good ol’ Brett. The one guy who’s fishing stories were tolerable.

grayson snorted. "you sound like an old man, hanging out with fishermen and falling over." he stood. "coffee? there's a shop around here somewhere. maybe a jirachibucks."
Oh Arceus, she really did sound like an old man. What had the world come to?
She stood too. “Finally. I thought you'd never ask.” Then she looked between the second steam bun and Grayson and the Gogoat. “Does your getaway car want this?”

Well, that was… fun? Maybe. She had felt taller than usual, and also more prone to falling. Thankfully that didn’t happen. “Thanks G.” G for Gogoat; there was no way Felizia would call Grayson that.
She had to laugh at his choice of drink. “What a girly drink – there’s not even caffeine in that!” Whatever she said, it still beat her choosing the cheapest coffee on the menu. “Please tell me you haven’t crossed into the bright, fruity cocktail zone too.”

"bug off. it's cold out, this is a warm drink. coffee tastes like shit anyway." the gogoat sipped a little from his cup. "just be glad i'm buying your damn drink. and no, i haven't. scotch on the rocks is more to my tastes."
“Okay, okay.” Her hands would be up in the surrender position if they weren’t too busy being warmed by holding her coffee. “I’ll refrain from further comment on how girly your drink is. But you’re dead wrong about coffee.”
The scotch on the rocks sort of redeemed him, but... a white hot chocolate.
“So...” What was she supposed to say now that she couldn't rip on him for his drink? Um. “How long you had your Gogoat for?”

"a few weeks." he sipped at the drink, enjoying the sweetness on his tongue. usually by the time he got to the bottom of his cup it would be a bit too sweet.
"how long have you been in nerio for? and what the hell are you doing here."
“He’s a pretty cool Pokemon. Where’d you get him from?” Felizia wanted one. The idea of not having to walk everywhere appealed to her lazy side.
“Oh, since forever,” she replied without any seriousness. He couldn't seriously think she was here for anything in particular. “I’m taking a page out of Irene’s book and gambling my life away. It’s worth it. You should try it sometime.”
