The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

"thirty-second floor," J answered, missing the emphasis in thalia's voice. he led them to a room on the roof, where a separate elevator took them straight to J's office.
the office was modestly furnished and rather organized. a parka identical to the one J was wearing hung on the stand, alongside a freshly-pressed suit. various files lined the bookshelf, and a safe sat near the desk.
J retrieved the shield that doubled as a very large coaster on the coffee table.
he had doubts if this was the life he wanted to lead until his inevitable death. it had quickly settled into a standard procedure of lending out money and beating up people and killing pokémon until the debt was settled.
"no. i've never used it since the anvil," he lifted it up and stood before thalia, shield in hand. "what about yours?"
She trailed off, voice small. She couldn't think of any way to say what she meant, and she wasn't even sure she should say it anyway. The conversational change was a welcome relief.
"I've tried. It's hard to use, harder than I thought it would be. Less useful than a shield probably, but if someone tries to snap my neck, I've at least got a pole to beat them with."
J imagined that attempting to use a three-section staff single-handedly would be incredibly difficult, but practice would probably help thalia along. if all else failed, they could always ask the anvil spirit for more advice.
"me against you?" J asked. "probably not. unless we can physically beat up scourge, then why not."
