This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Thalia was having a no good very bad day. Her C-gear still clutched in her hand, she stalked into the casino, straight past Irene's table, as she looked for J.
Actually, she knew exactly what would improve her day. Thalia marched back over to Irene's table. She had a pile of chips and a glass of red wine in front of her. The former gym leader didn't even turn her head to acknowledge her.
Thalia picked up her wine glass and dumped it on Irene's head. That felt great. The edge came off her temper.
surprisingly - or perhaps not at all - none of the crowd reacted; they were keen to keep their game of cards going. only irene volunteered as she got up from her seat. her tone was tinged with annoyance as she spoke back to thalia: "the rooftop," said the gym leader, before storming off to get another glass of wine, "he's a nice man, contrary to what people will tell you."
the other patrons of the casino murmured amongst themselves. what could this pink-haired trainer possibly want with J? she did not look like she was in debt; if anything, she seemed like a family member out for blood. they parted, however, to allow thalia passage to the elevators that led to the top of casino aurora.
The elevator moved excruciatingly slow, to Thalia's perception. In reality, it was rising upwards at a standard pace--perhaps even faster than average. What a good elevator!
Thalia tapped her foot impatiently. Finally the doors slid open and she exited onto the rooftop. Not at a run. A very brisk walk, maybe.
"That's what I plan to do," Thalia said. It was a testament to how stressed she was that she didn't even register the man under J's foot. "What do you know?"
he growled, lifting the man up before shoving him against a wall. J's grip slacked, and he let the man leave after taking one of his pokéballs. the trainer tossed it into a nearby incinerator; the pokéball started to curve and crush under intense heat. J watched it melt.
"what about you?" he asked, but it took effort for him to keep his voice level.
"Based off of what Karimi told me, I think I know the agent who might have her. And..."
Well, there was nothing to do but say it.

"I was trying to contact Neo, which was how I found out. Athena answered my text. I wanted to talk to her about the world beyond the rift that we found mentioned in papers at Pax Institute. I think I went there. I also think it's the most logical place for him to have taken her."
"In my dream. I thought it was a part of the Dream World at first, but it's not. Not at all." She shuddered.
"If we go there in a dream, there's nothing we can do. But Neo and I had planned even before this to try and explore the rift, travel through it. All this does is accelerate the plan. We go through. We find Neo. We get the fuck out."
"He said his name was Batin when he had me. Karimi only knew him as Brand. But he mentioned having a lucario to her, and so did Batin. That lucario sliced my leg open."
J slipped his hands into pockets, and looked over the city of nerio.
"so this person -- he took neo, and we're going to storm some place." there was a sort of edge to J's voice; it wasn't a question, it sounded like he was determined to do it, wherever it was.
Thalia accepted it gratefully and dug a lighter out of her back pocket. (Burning scourge corpses usually required one.)
"Got that researcher friend of Neo's in as well," Thalia said. "Karimi. Dunno if you know her. Can you think of anyone else worth bringing in on this?"
