This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Yes. Had you encountered them first in this realm, there is no telling what damage they might have wrought. They are careless and wasteful. Too often they kill those they might spare and turn to the gift.
Perhaps they work out of jealousy, unwilling to share what they believe to be their rightful place. For I sense great potential in you, and they would have marked it as well.
Tell me, what would you do with the power I would grant you?
he remembered the camerupt he had fought. it had been on a powerful rampage and its name widely known amongst the pax crew. it was sheer power without elegance, but that was what worked for it. the froslass had been different. its agent was keen to bring everything down with itself. the destiny bond had been to trap and injure them further.
none of them had been spared. they did not have mercy within them. despite this thought, J was not sure if he could do any better.
"i will use it when appropriate. if these agents try to kill me, i will kill them." J glanced at the emboar and wondered if it was still smiling. "are the agents disunited, each having their own agenda?"
Each of them plots and weaves their own web, convinced their path is the truest one, convinced that their petty human tragedies mean that they are unassailable in their righteousness.
Quite frankly, they are all boring. They have little vision.
The emboar is still smiling. Giratina is using him like an empty puppet, and it tends to forget to make it pretend to breathe or blink, much less change facial expressions.
"sounds like they need to get their eyes checked," J agreed -- perhaps a little too quickly for his own liking. the emboar continued its hollow smile, its stance rigid and fixed the way its master wished it to stand.
it was good to know more about the agents. if they acted separately, he would be able -- not him. he couldn't do it alone. his team was incapable. in pairs, he was stronger. but what if -- J grit his teeth, set his jaw, and willed himself to think of something else -- the agents.
The gift does not discriminate. Those who want it can survive it. The only key is in desiring it, on some level. Whether it can be utilized properly is another question. Only those with with My blessing and true purpose can rise above their limitations and benefit from all the gift offers.
The emboar's mouth lolled slightly as Giratina fell silent.
Would it interest you to learn the locations of these so-called agents?
"it would. it would also be in your interest if i did, correct?"
J knew slightly more about the gift now. it was a good gift -- but it also had its implications and effects. as far as things were concerned, none of them seemed to be aware of the existence of this speaker.
it was at this moment that J wished he had paid more attention to mythos and legends. a body of steel -- those words alone made him take interest. he was speaking to a creature called giratina, and the emboar before him was presumably a vessel for it.
"giratina," said J, testing the sound of its name on his tongue. "if this is the name humanity has given you, what is your true name?"

J's voice sounded low and guttural, and there was a certain rawness to the way he said the name. something was changing in him; it was a good change, J thought, if only because the land approved of what he felt.

Then when you return, you will accept the gift. You must walk in the flesh the next time you come here, or else the gift cannot truly reach you. The path to this world lies in the heart of Lemures. Do you know the place of which I speak?
The place called Pax Lake. Should you go there, you will find a place where most humans dare not venture, guarded by pokemon of a great and terrible strength. Beyond them you will find a chasm of white light. Enter it, and you will come before me in truth. Find someone to guide you, if you must.
