yves watches as the cold connects with hope's heart, pushing him to the ground. she stares at the sableye for a moment, her hands twitching from the frigidness of the air around him. she lifts her head to face grayson. the darkness around her disappears, and there she is, mask and all. "do me a favor," she yells to him, "and get out of here while you're ahead." and she shows her teeth, vicious and ready to bite.

she draws the STEEL SIGN and charges at him, her entire body transforming into glimmering minerals as she goes.

grayson hopped the fuck onto charizard and flew away, returning lapras while he was at it. because fuck all this shit.

alex stepped out from behind the building, clapping. "well done, miss." he applauded, grinning. he could feel the bond, the virus that thrummed through both of their veins. "my name is alex. it is the utmost pleasure to meet you." sonata slithered across the ground, popping out of the shadow beside the sableye. it ran its hand across the pokemon, mildly mournful. "i'm sorry to see that child defeat your sableye. we grieve for your loss, but hope that it will get better soon. which it shall of course." sonata grinned. "the virus loves us. may i inquire to your name?"

he walked over until he was right in front of yves, a smooth smile decorating his mouth. "it's wonderful to meet another agent."

alex learned the steel sign.

the boy flies away and her skin dulls, transforming from metal to flesh. she's left straightening her coat and tapping her toes to the cement, trying to get her oversized shoes to fit. she watches with interest as a second boy strolls up to her. yves returns her hands to her side and watches alex with curiosity. "i am yves." she says, squinting at him.

"i'd like to say it is nice to meet you as well," she begins, "but i may not." she glances to her sableye. "because i do not understand why you stood back there and did not assist me when you easily could have." yves gestures to the gengar, "especially with that following you."

alex didn't bother being indignant. "i had another battle earlier. sonata was injured as his opponents were much higher level than him." he lit a cigarette. "you seemed like you were doing fine, until that boy pulled that lapras out again. i did not think you required assistance."

sonata helped up the sableye, standing beside it. it grinned. alex rolled his eyes at the gengar. "forgive me for not coming to the rescue. you didn't seem like a damsel in distress. far from it." he could see strength in her eyes.

alex liked it.

her face cools down a bit, going from pink to white in a mere ten seconds. yves drops her head. "let me apologize." she says shamefully, reaching out her hand. "i'm sure you understand why this situation is a bit frustrating." she looks up at the sky, trying to catch a glimpse of the charizard. they're long gone by now.

damsel in distress? "no. you're right." she sighs. "it was a cheap move." no it wasn't. people do all kinds of things when they fight scourge. yves thinks. but she wouldn't dare say that out loud. she rubs her gloved fingers together, trying to catch heat.

"i saw that you were watching very closely." she says, eyeing him up and down. "see anything new?"
