This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

the bridge was broken and there was nowhere else to turn but to go back from whence he came. J stood by the rails of the bridge and glanced down at the scourge-infested waters; scourge pokémon came and went, but none stepped unto the bridge.
smoke spiralled upward from his cigarette. he glanced out at the lake, squinting at a few creatures that popped up from the water.
a few scourge magikarp.
briefly, he contemplated the idea of fishing by the bridge.
"No reason why you couldn't fish, as long as you don't care about the risk of being dragged down into the water by a scourge Wailord or something. Or if you don't mind being eaten by whatever you pull up.
So maybe fishing wouldn't be that enjoyable, actually. Unless that's what you like."
He smiled at J.
"But where are my manners? You can call me Batin. A pleasure to meet you."
J had an old rod. he also had a good rod. none of them had seen much use, and after hearing what the other man had to say, it was very unlikely they would even see the light of day.
"i wanted to make time for fishing," said the trainer, blinking at the calm waters below, "but that's not happening.
"J." he extended a hand, but didn't smile back. "nice to meet you."
Batin shook his hand, and then peered back down at the water.
"You've chosen a very strange spot for fishing," he said. "Most people wouldn't come out this far to scourge territory just in the hopes of landing a barboach."
a scourge magikarp poked its head out of the water and stared at them. it was quickly dragged back down into the depths by a scourge whiscash out on the hunt.
"most people don't come out here for a stroll either," said J, glancing out at the broken bridge.
"I'm sorry if I seem rude," he said. "But ever since it turned out there are humans working with the scourge, not just pokemon, I'm wary of everyone new around here. Decima isn't exactly a prime tourist spot these days."
Batin stared at the packet with poorly disguised disgust.
"I think I'll pass," he said. "And if you really do like Decima these days, I think you're the only person in the world. Even Melchior is sick of this place."
"As far as we know. Not like many people go to the gym to check up on him. The highest toxicity concentration is there. Not sure even my gas mask would keep me safe. He could be in Sol sipping a martini with Atlanta and no one would be the wiser."
Batin really didn't like Melchior. Still not sure why.
