This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

ismael didn't know how he could frighten someone either, but that was apparently the case. perhaps the scourge made people jumpier than usual, or there was something lurking about in the air that made things different and difficult for people to see past appearances for what lived within.
"again, thank you," ismael said softly, "you're not so bad yourself." and ismael meant what he had said. things could have gone wrong the moment he passed out -- whether it was the goodra that turned the outcome on its heels or elias himself that induced that, he didn't know, but a calm situation like this was always more desirable compared to a tense one.
no. elias honestly didn't see anything dangerous about this man. he wouldn't hurt a fly, it seemed. but people are never who you think they are.
elias was too naive to think about that. or perhaps he didn't want to think about it right now. all he wanted to do right now is keep ismael calm. he and goodra had decided that long ago. right when the stranger woke up, really. they'd calm him down, make sure he was okay, and then they'd go their separate ways.
"so, ismael, have you always lived in proserpina?"vertigo

ismael shook his head in response. he didn't know where he was from, but the city had seemed so vast and difficult that he was certain he had never set foot in the place before. "i don't think this is where i came from," said ismael. "it's too unfamiliar to me."
he wondered if alexander knew where they were from, but his brother was a man ismael did not wish to fraternize with.
"oh." he says, scratching his head. "that's ok too. sometimes having a home is a curse." he pulls a water bottle out of his coat pocket; offers it to ismael.
"a curse?" ismael echoed. "-- yeah, i'd like some water. thanks." he took the bottle of water, held it, but didn't drink. he seemed to be waiting for an answer.
"it's...complicated. especially if you travel a lot." he thinks for a moment. "having a family and house makes it much tougher to leave. sometimes saying goodbye makes it not even worth saying hello." elias only shrugs, pulls out a bottle of his own and unscrews the cap. vertigo

ismael blinked. he didn't really get what elias was saying -- if anything, he wanted a home he could return to. but alas, things didn't work out the way people often wanted them to.
he unscrewed the cap and drank from the bottle in silence.
"sometimes you can't help but want to leave, right?" he asked, softly.
"maybe in the beginning." elias answers. "eventually, though, people get homesick." he ruffles his hair and pockets the semi-empty water bottle. "most people, at least."vertigo

"nope." he says honestly, or so he thinks. in truth there's hesitation in his voice. elias sits down on the bench; thinks. does he miss home? there was a feeling of security there, but was it worth the neglect? is it worth the lonliness, even now? no.
he never even loved his parents anyway. (at least that's what he's decided-- not what's actually happening) vertigo

he smiled. "that's good, then," said the teenager, glancing away from the trainer and out at the open. it was good that he wasn't homesick, wasn't it? trainers left home for long periods of time, it seemed. not getting homesick seemed to be a required trait.
ismael rose from the bench, waving slightly at elias.
"i'm going to head back now. it's been a pleasure talking to you," he said, and gave elias a nod.
