The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

nidhoggr seemed very happy to have something to eat. after freyja, it went over to where odin's brain was and fought fenrir for a snack. they were both fighting over odin's arm or something that used to be a limb.
shamees sat in lotus position atop the mctauros counter and watched the two humans.
"you're not supposed to die yet," he said. "can't have things going badly for you."

nidhoggr ragnarök mvp. it snapped up shamees in one swift motion, gobbling him down as it had freya and odin's right arm.
J was dazed and winded. freyja had been stronger than he imagined.
The sight of Shamees being gobbled was almost a relief. Maybe now they could finally get off this roller coaster. Thalia looked at J, and then at Nidhug.
"You can come eat us as well," she called out.

Nooooo! Nidhug wanted to be their friend. He slithered over and twined himself around the two of them, begging for scale scratches.
fenrir had rubbed off on nidhoggr. in the absence of shamees, the two of them approached the two trainers and asked for belly rubs and scale scratches, to which J complied. fenrir barked happily and ended up chasing its own tail, and nidhoggr was content to lay down with a satisfied sigh.
"... i wanted a pet dinosaur," said J, but he had a feeling that shamees would tell him that they were indeed the same thing and that he was being silly. so he turned to nidhoggr.
"can you give us a hug?"

Nidhug would love to hug his new friends! He carefully curled a wing around each of them, mindful of their fragile human bodies. He wouldn't want to hurt either of them.
shamees did some sort of tutting with his tongue that told J that it was impossible to have it back. it was like snatching candy from a baby to shamees, except that J and thalia were young adults standing in the middle of a roofless mctauros, hugged by a dragon amidst a pile of corpses, attended to by six sleipnir-mienshao and watched over by a fairy godmother in the form of shamees-loki.
