This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

yveltal cast a dark shadow over kohaku as it passed effortlessly through the air. not a single soul disrupted its path; with phantom force in play, it was effectively invisible to almost all except those attuned to the ghostly world. it brought them across the region to where juno city was, and landed atop the hospital's helipad, still shrouded from the world.
iskander and batin were similarly subjected to the creature's might. a veil pressed down around them, casting all light away from them, thus rendering them invisible.
'what are your wishes, children?' yveltal flexed its wings, snapped its beak and stared straight into both agents. its chest gleamed a shade of red and orange, and the plants around the hospital started to wither and snap. the sun dimmed as well; yveltal constantly hungered for energy and power, and drew it from the burning star.
batin watched the sky dim with evident fascination. he himself felt no adverse effects from yveltal's presence; he assumed this was a result of conscious choice on the legendary's part. he wondered if there were life support machines snapping to black screens and straight white lines in the hospital below them.
"this is your home, delta," he demurred. "it seems polite to leave the choice here to you."
"ever heard of lyanna?" iskander glanced at batin. "the elite four who resides in the dream world. she lays here, comatose." the agent met yveltal's gaze. the legendary said nothing but cock its head inquiringly. "bashir, do you mind staying here for a while?" he asked of the legendary, lowering his head and taking care to make his voice a modest one.
yveltal regarded the two agents, before giving a curt nod.
'i shall await here for your return.'
iskander slipped his arm around batin's. "let's go, dear. third floor, intensive care unit."
the phantom force slipped away from the two agents, but continued to mask their appearance. iskander simply appeared as a different man while batin ...

"we're the most handsome couple for twenty miles today."
"You make me feel like an entirely new man," Batin said, and escorted Delta to Lyanna's room. The Elite 4 member lay wan and comatose in her bed. Someone brushed her hair and washed her face, trimmed the nails of the hands that lay folded neatly upon the coverlet, but no one was home inside that body. Lyanna was walking inside the Dream World, and she did not enjoy waking up.
the intensive care unit was home to two figures, one on each end of the room. one of them was under a sort of quarantine and was off to the side, while lyanna laid in plain view. the other patient was of a certain degree of interest to iskander, but for now, his plans were for lyanna.
they were lucky. there was no semblance of staff around in the hospital to bother them. they had the entire place to themselves -- well, comatose patients didn't move, so they were as good as alone.
iskander drew chairs for himself and batin. he sat upon one, and peered over lyanna.
"she walks in the dream world," he said in a sing-song voice, "and soon she won't."
he fiddled blindly with some buttons off to the side, and managed to raise the bed just slightly. it almost seemed like lyanna was talking to visitors on one of her rare days awake from her dream.
"my, grandmother, what a pretty face you have." iskander lightly pressed a finger to her neck.

Lyanna's body twitched and stirred faintly, as if she were trapped somewhere between waking and dreaming. Batin hadn't taken the offered seat--he'd drifted to the other side of the room, idly curious about the concealed bed, but at the sleeping woman's movements, he turned back.
"You're going to break your toy before you get to play with it," Batin said a little sadly.
"that's why i brought you along," said iskander calmly, "you're supposed to fix things for me. i don't plan to kill her just yet. she could tell us things about the dream world. ideally here, in real life, because she's powerless and the only thing she can do is squirm about in her bed."
lyanna's breathing ran erratic for a while, before it steadied again. iskander was briefly amused. she was more rooted to the dream world than he had expected, but never mind. people took great strides and hits for science and aspirations.
"If you give her a reason to, she will. Humans are strange creatures. The healthy will waste away for want of a purpose, while those wounded unto death will keep crawling forward for a cause they believe in. If you can shake Lyanna's belief in her story that she can't survive outside of the Dream World, there's nothing wrong with her."
batin's button worked a miracle. lyanna was immediately whisked away from the dream world and emerged on the hospital bed by their side. iskander watched her return with a smile.
Her eyes fluttered open at Iskander's voice, and Lyanna pulled the shroud of her dignity around her, affecting a queen's displeased scowl as she lay helpless before the two men.
"I left explicit orders not to be woken," she said, her voice raspy and dry. "I don't know for what reason you disobeyed them, but if EOS has come to beg like dogs for my assistance once more, I shall be severely upset."
Her right hand fisted in the blanket, trembling minutely.
"we're not here to beg, lyanna," said iskander, "i suppose you could say we're here to know more about the dream world. how do you meld it to your will?"
"I should hardly think so simple a question required rousing me. I would have entertained you at the Battle Arena and sent you running off with an autograph as well."
"it's not as fun when you're not on the same level as us. here you speak to us as a human being and not the dream queen. and you're also very much mortal here."
who needed the dream world when he had the land of nightmares and the library of lost things at his disposal? the knowledge about the dream world was just an added bonus; he had hoped that lyanna would be able to fill out the blanks about things he couldn't find information about in the library of lost things. had they met her in the dream world, he had a feeling she would have escaped before they got an answer.
"not everyone needs dreams," iskander said, "but everyone needs reality. your reality is the dream world. mine is here."
