This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

self assurance or no, all karimi really knows is that everyone will be forced to become a confident veteran eventually. the scourge fights had been nothing like what she had thought they would be when she first started out, but she will continue to surmount challenges for as long as she is alive - and she will be.
"i'm sure it sounds like a lot of work! well, it kinda is, but it's not so bad when you fall into the habit of things." she inclines her head in the vullaby's direction. "kohaku is a lot easier to travel when you've got a flying type. then you'll just have to deal with the scourge pidgetto, rather than every slacking or zebstrika that you run into. really, once you get over the hump, it's alright."
scourge free, but for how long? karimi can only hope that geographers such as garnet could acrruately predict the stream, but there is still so much that they do not know.
"oh, and uh. i'm not sure if the general public knows too much about this, but..." she didn't think so since the information would have caused quite a bit of panic, but karimi hasn't interacted with many civilians over the past few months. "watch out for hades agents, y'hear me? like. there's been trainers who are running around with the scourge." karimi pauses and decides that it wasn't the most apt description. she had already covered this with the group of researchers, and they had all demanded clarification. "well, they're really more like rangers. basically, they're ordinary-looking folk who fight with the scourge. gave me a bit of a nasty surprise when i tried to 'save' one from a scourge camerupt."
karimi has the decency to look a little embarrassed. cass
"I guess that's how most things in life usually work. Habits, I mean." that's why they were so hard to break, because they were routine. Going tooth and nail with the Scourge would be an exception. Kaz shared in Karimi's look at Vera, who sat lazily. Karimi's had gone, returned with her batch of PC Pokemon. He couldn't imagine being able to fly on her back, even as a Mandibuzz. Kaz contained a smile as he thought about it.
His amusement died off quickly as Karimi got real with him again. She really was a help. Kaz could really only say that Hades was the God of the Underworld, and with that in the name, he assumed they were evil. To him, working with the Scourge seemed idiotic -- at any moment, they could turn on you with the strength and hatred they showed regular humans. Were they even regular humans? Kaz pulled his gaze away from the Vullaby when he realized that it and any other ordinary Pokemon were capable of the same thing.
"O...kay." he tried to take in as much of the description as possible, but it wasn't easy when he didn't know much about Rangers, either. At the time, it didn't seem like a big deal to ask for more information -- Kaz had plenty of time. They probably didn't immerse themselves in the general public. His thoughts wandered to a man using Kaz's own fireplace in Bacchus.
But hiding in plain sight seemed smart if you had a small, unnoticeable Pokemon. Kaz was probably safe from the guy with the Camerupt.
"Thanks for the heads up...I doubt most people know about them. It would spook 'em, anyway." it was great to know these things before meeting a hades agent (irony!!). toska
"yup! that's why we gotta build good ones." karimi can personally attest to that, considering how many times she fucked up over the past year.
she doesn't miss kaz's puzzled look. she's pretty oblivious about all else, but better commuication skills became more necessary than ever ever since she arrived at kohaku university. karimi is happy to spread the word to whatever recruits she can, at least. save them a lot of grief when they find out how complicated the war effort really is. even save their lives, maybe.
"hey, no problem!" karimi takes out a c-gear. "do you want to leave me a number? as i said, networking's important in our line of work, yanno!" cass
"That makes sense." Kaz was the type who ate whatever he wanted and did what felt right in the moment. He was more inclined to bad habits, considering both aforementioned things were awful. He knew it, too. Something about being twenty made him not care. It was probably entirely stupid, given the current circumstances.
His eyes latched onto Karimi's c-gear quickly, following it as she moved it. He would be glad to give her his number. If he knew it. Kaz tugged at something in his pocket, revealing his own c-gear. It was probably meant for his wrist, but he didn't really like the idea. Watches weren't his thing. "You might just want to give me yours -- my memory fails me with stuff like this." There were just some people who couldn't remember their own numbers, as stupid as that was. Still, he nodded, hiding his sheepish grin for a moment before it disappeared. "Yeah, keep in touch in case of emergency, or something." he was sure that emergencies weren't uncommon. toska
she rattles off her number. "send me a message when you can! i might not get to you that quickly, but i'll try my best."
by now, the researchers had mostly dispersed. karimi figured that was her cue as well. there's only too many people to meet in this large city. "hey, take care of yourself out there, alright? i mean i know that it's important to fight the scourge and all, but you should look after your own needs too. not many people seem to remember that when everything seems to be about life and death. anyway, i should probably get going now. take care!"
