This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

ismael nodded slowly. it was a lot to consider in a short while. funding sounded nice, though; he wondered if he ought to join eos himself. he quickly shrugged away the thought upon realizing that he didn't want much to do with the world and everything at stake.
"live each day like it's your last," ismael suddenly said, then paused to look at thalia. "it sounds like something you'd say, haha."
"It sounds better when you say it though," Thalia said. "Stuff like that. I just sound cheesy. Still, though. Maybe I should set up a fund or something. Donate money to wayward orphans."
"I read the article in the paper about it when it first happened," Thalia said. "I think we got some sort of internal memo about it as well, but I'm not in Juno that often to go visit. Did they decide it was scourge work for sure, or do they still not know?"
There was a knock on the door before Thalia had a chance to respond, and she opened it to a delivery boy who was almost falling over from the weight of all the food he was carrying.
"Sorry," she said, and took the eight boxes of ribs off his hands. Those went in the corner for Charizard, who settled in contently. For herself and Ismael there were only four boxes, two of whatever kind of rice Ismael's heart desired, and two for herself.
She handed Ismael's boxes to him, and sent the delivery boy on his way with a fifty percent tip for his struggle.
ismael was happy to note that they were having rice as he had briefly mentioned to thalia. "wow," he said, staring at the two boxes and cracking a smile, "this is awesome."
he didn't know when was the last time he had had something decent to eat. most kind of food wasn't really food to ismael unless it involved rice. rice was the king of foods to him, honestly.
It had only been two boxes. Apparently that was enough for Thalia to put away in a post. Scary. She set aside her empty food containers and watched Charizard bolt the rest of his tauros ribs down.
ismael was a slower eater than thalia was. he was working his way through the last of his first box of rice. he wasn't full yet, though; he just ate really slowly. fennekin attempted to rifle through his second box of rice; ismael gently pushed the fox away before continuing to eat.
Thalia stood at the window besides Ismael, hands curling lightly on the windowsill. She watched the snow fall in tall drifts against the buildings across the street. A mother led her child by the hand, tugging at him impatiently as he stopped to gawk at the ice-glazed street.
"I'm glad you're not out there right now," she said.
ismael nodded. "yeah," he agreed quietly. he was certain that things wouldn't have ended well if he had still been by the amberwell. would he have frozen to death by then? perhaps it would have ended his misery, but it seemed that he wasn't on death's schedule at the moment.
slowly, almost hopefully, he asked: "does it snow in sol?"
