This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.

The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

this wasn't verte's first time in the battle arena, although it was with her newest partner. athena was watching curiously from her arms, still young and still naive about the world.
verte waited for someone who was as bored as she was to offer her a battle. she needed the zorua to learn.
a ranger wasn't supposed to do battle with other people, and that was a fact that ikram knew and took to heart. still, it didn't stop her from dreaming and entering the dream world. drifting through space, the girl took form in the battle arena. wukong landed by her side shortly after.
the chimchar watched the girl before them curiously, its head tilted to look up at its partner. 'where is this place?'
"beats me," ikram replied, "but it seems like we're due for a battle."
the lights flashed on in the arena, and so did the electronic signboards. ikram's name alongside verte's filtered unto the screen; the led flickered to reflect their information. the ranger noted her opponent's name, and the zorua in her arms.
the lights flickered on, the sure sign that there was a battle about to go down. names flashed on the board, and verte righted her head from where she had tilted it up to read it to face her opponent.
"i'm verte," she says, and lets athena down. the zorua takes a battle stance a good distance into the field.
yeah, verte. said so on the board, ikram thought, but she flashed the other girl a smile anyway. ikram nodded. "i am," she said, nodding towards wukong.
the chimchar stepped onto the box on their side of the field, and the battle arena warped. a transparent force field protected the humans from the battle within, rising up from the lines that formed the edges of the pitch.
wukong circled the zorua nimbly, before raising a hand and performing its learnt techniques.

a simple two word answer, and they were getting right down to it. the world fluctuated, changing, and as she was cut off from her pokemon verte stood with her head held high. athena wouldn't back down from a fight. she knew better than that.
the zorua eyed the chimchar skeptically before retaliating.

ikram's hand was on her styler by now, at the ready to use it to draw a sign -- any sign, to turn the tide in her favor. but sadly, it was unethical to do so. despite that, she still tussled with the idea of using it.
wukong bore the brunt of the scratch before striking back with its own claw attacks.

verte wasn't one for talking during battles, or doing anything, really; she kept her arms crossed, eyes open and vigilant on what her pokemon was doing. it was always a good idea to have an eye on a battle at all times, what with how out of hand it could get, even in a dream.

there were always the serious ones. ikram was only too happy to keep up with her end of the nonexistent exchange, even though she wasn't all that shabby at conversation herself.
hot on its trails, the chimchar was subjected to the zorua ramming into its side. wukong picked itself up without too much trouble, and flipping forwards, it released small blasts of fire in the zorua's direction.
oh ho ho, that was the final straw. that was it. athena was done playing around. even if she didn't have that good of a moveset, that didn't mean this little punk of a chimchar could burn her and get away with it!

wukong was sliced in the face four times by an attack similar to what it knew. the monkey snickered; a burn on the zorua was worth ten scratches on the face.

even with a burn, athena's still going strong. the question is, though, if that'll slow her down, and if it does, when she'll fall. personally, the zorua is too angry to notice. she shrieks in indignation as she hurls herself at the chimchar.
there's no point in running athena to the ground in her stubbornness, dream or no. verte recalls her pokemon in a flash of red light, and smiles at the opponent across from her. she makes sure her manner is pleased, and not at all angry at losing, or yielding. "i yield; you win."
the shield on her side slides down, and the lights ahead flash her adversary - ikram - as the winner through yielding.
