luke looked at his map of proserpina, utterly confused. he had no idea where he was, bu he was near the docks. some random fisherman had given him a fishing rod, but he didn't even want it. "ryn... this is confusing. i wish you could talk so i could ask you what's going on."

the ralts waved an arm frantically. she could talk to him telepathetically! he just... wasn't getting her signals.

luke sighed, defeated. "what happened... i miss jail."

never thought he'd say that sentence.

raph was walking around proserpina on a perfectly normal day with elysia by his side and venice riding the absol. because the small psychic pokemon was so damn curious about everything.

damn ralts and their innate curiosity. or was it just this particular ralts, and the researcher was just unlucky? hm...

the reason they were out in the cold in the first place tugged on his sleeve and pointed in a direction, where lay another ralts, with their trainer. it was definitely vaccinated, and as his psychic pokemon waved her arms frantically raph admitted defeat and walked toward the unlucky trainer.

"hey," he said, a hand on his hip. "do you need help? your pokemon seems really... irritated." that was probably an understatement but hey, he could plead ignorance.

luke looks up at the other with a look of despair. "i don't know what the hell i'm doing. i don't even know why i have this pokemon! what the hell has been going on in the last eight months? i haven't been here, i have no idea. i am just... very lost and confused." he puts his face in his hands, groaning into his palms.

ryn looks flustered, patting luke's back to calm him. she made no noise, luke hadn't heard a damn peep out of her. she pats him anyway, rubbing his shoulders.

"could you inform me on what's been going on this past eight months?"

raph knew he was staring. he knew it. but then, what else were you supposed to do when someone told you they had no idea what the hell's been going on in the last eight months?

he scrubbed a hand over his face, then rubbed his neck - the one on his hip had long since fallen away in shock. "the scourge happened. something called the hades virus was let loose in bacchus laboratories, and started infecting pokemon and humans. it's wiped out the entire area around lake pax, and it's starting to infect the surrounding cities as well."

he gave a meaningful look towards the clearly vaccinated ralts. "you have a vaccinated pokemon, what the hell do you mean that you don't know why you have it? you're eos! you should know what's been going on!" he gave a sigh and a questioning look towards the poor psychic pokemeon. "does he honestly have no idea what's going on?"

luke's face was that of mild horror. well, that explains the prison break in. "is nerio safe?" he was upright and grabbing raph by the shoulders, knuckles white. "tell me nerio is safe."

he completely ignored the other questions aimed at him, while the ralts just looked up at raph, silent. well, she gave a little coo but did not offer any sort of telepathetic conversation.

the researcher only raised an eyebrow before shoving the concerned trainer off him. "get the fuck off me. you want information, you don't grab someone and demand, you ask for it."

although the guy had been pretty worried over nerio, so raph let it slide this once. "nerio's holding, but it's close to bacchus. unless they get their act together it won't be long before it falls." never let it be said that raph was an optimist - he looked at the glass half-empty always. "why do you wanna know, anyway? got a sweetheart there or something?"

venice tried to establish telepathic communication because hey, fellow ralts and pokemon. her mount only gave the two trainers a disbelieving look before sitting down with raph's ralts perched on her neck and looked, to all appearances, bored out of her mind.

luke knew that he was fully capable of pounding this kid into the ground. he backed away, sighing. "i've been in prison the past eight months, i'm from nerio. it's my home." he looked down at the little ralts. "i stumbled into some random alakazam who took my application, which i did not realize was for eos, and gave me a pokemon."

there was a pause. "her name's ryn." he ran a hand through his hair, sighing again. "i don't know what eos is, i just found out what the scourge is. i'm pretty sure a scourge... something attacked my prison. it's just a graveyard now. i killed it with a spear before getting the hell out of there."

...how the fuck did someone not realize what they were signing up for? eos, no less? it baffled raph, but he moved on. now wasn't the time to question people.

...wait, he was from prison? that... would actually explain a whole lot. "heh, lucky you, then," raph said, tucking his hands into his pockets. "and congrats on getting away from the scourge - not many do." he knew it well enough - the virus had struck his home, bacchus, driven him out and into di manes, killing everyone and everything he knew in the process.

though, one thing was bugging him... "so do you have any idea how to battle with a pokemon? a spear's good and all, but you're dead if you can't hold your own with a partner against the scourge."

"...no." luke stared helplessly at the ralts. "honestly, i have no idea what i'm doing. but i've always been a good fighter. i can hold my own. i'll figure it out with pokemon. eventually."

...raph really didn't have anything to say to that. "...let's hope your eventually comes sooner than later, then."

well, now was time to be polite. luke smiled at raph, offering a hand. "my name's lucas. call me luke. i'm... a trainer, i guess. who are you?"

king is glad luke has manners and a sociable personality. he mildly regrets making grayson so unplottable.

raph only looks suspiciously at the hand for a moment before shaking it. "i'm raphael, but most call me raph. researcher." he let go of the hand after that, and scratched elysia's head while she only seemingly-bared it with dignity. "this here's elysia, and the ralts on top of her is venice. does your ralts have a name?"

nette feels that raph is her way to curse freely while being ic, lol.

luke thought he had mentioned it earlier, but perhaps it was his imagination. or perhaps raph simply... hadn't heard. "ryn." he looked around. "hey raph, as you can see i'm still in my prison uniform. do you know somewhere that sells clothes?"

...raph doesn't notice that the name was mentioned earlier, because he's already turning different clothing shops and their locations relative to them over in his head. "there's one near here, if you're good with casual shirts and jeans, or there's a sport shop with that sort of gear about a block away."

"i can deal with casual." he glances at raph. "i hope you're not against stealing. because i'm broke."

ryn seems excited to be stealing.
