This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

the leafeon sat down. his tail thumped on the ground. sabina raised him up with telekinesis, a few feet over her head, and pulled out her c-gear to begin jotting down notes.
"i'll only throw him in the amberwell if it becomes necessary," she said. "but even should the compound wear off while i'm still in the field, i would prefer to keep him alive and transport him back to my lab. keep him there for further refinement of the compound."
milly is a little surprised by the telekinesis, but sabina isn't the first that she's seen with psychic powers. the mephistopheles family had contact with all sorts of folk. milly had been expected to maintain those relations.
"how far is your lab?" she can't quite keep the concern out of her voice. if the compound did wear off...well, there was a reason that the scientist had requested her pokemon's assistance in the first place, wasn't there? otherwise, the woman's powers would have been enough. 2tsunz
"my real lab is in sol city. i'll only be taking him as far as prosperina, however. that's where i'm currently operating out of, for as long as i'm studying scourge. it's not close to the front lines, but it's closer than sol. close enough that i can start getting specimens shipped to me, hopefully. live ones, if i'm lucky."
huh. a lab in sol city. even for a girl who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth, milly is pretty impressed. as far as she knows, they didn't really give sol space to just anyone. there wasn't enough space in a tourist city for those who couldn't take the eos backdoor.
"shipping live scourge to a major population center sounds pretty risky." if even one escaped - well. the vaccinated pokemon are in the minority. okay, that was pretty redundantly obvious, but milly couldn't just. stand around and say nothing at all. 2tsunz
"risky? probably. the lab is secured though, and i'm certainly not tramping out here every day just to on the off chance i can get a pokemon infected, survive, and study it."
if milly had something to say to that, then she can't remember because the leafeon is already starting to come around.
"arceus" her first instinct is to retrieve her pokemon back into their balls before anything happens to them, but that's -- that's not right, is it? vaccinated pokemon are here to put themselves between the trainer and the scourge. that's why she's breeding them, that's why she's keeping them-
the pancham and the shinx had been acting tough before, but now they seem less sure of themselves. they look to milly for guidance, and she looks to sabina.

the leafeon twitched and shuddered, trying to snarl through his muzzle at the humans and pokemon around him, but didn't move. sabina kept him locked firmly in place with telekinesis.
"interesting," she said and jotted down something in her c-gear. then she jammed another syringe straight into his flank.
