This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

the box was nothing more than a box. that was good.
J, on the other hand, wasn't so good. the pain might have receded, but he was still frozen in place, as if waiting for it to strike him again. for some reason, he hadn't yet removed his hand from the box.
he nodded at the lucario. "no problem," said J, even if he was still mentally recovering from his ordeal. it wasn't something he could brush off as just another adventure. this held more gravity to it, somehow.
the lucarionite was cool to the touch. J grasped it a little too tightly for his liking.
"it's okay," J said, finally pulling his hand out of the box. it was intact, and unharmed. he figured that would suffice. "did they use to subject you to it?"
< No, I have never undergone it. It used to be considered a gift. An honor to be subjected to the box, and to defeat it. But that was a trial reserved for humans. My trainer competed against many for the chance to undergo the same test you just did. >
< Everything is...cool. I will continue to guard this place for many years and fulfill my obligation. Thank you. I will hold your memory in honor when your bones have long since turned to dust. >
"thanks again," he said, before releasing kirlia from its pokéball. the psychic-type drew a magical circle on the ground, before they teleported away from the tellumo ruins.
