This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

Regina held a camcorder in one hand, aiming it down at the puffy Elekid. She crossed her arms in her pristine emerald green lab-coat, her face shielded by the technology of the glass eye. Her curiousity in the pokemon across from her made her attention dwindle from Amos, who stared at it with a grumpy, childish frown. A slim wire trailed down from the camera and connected into the pokedex in her pocket.
"Yah ready, scout?" she finally asked, shifting her attention to zealous and frenzied black and yellow stripes. Like tiger claws through a neon lights, she thought. Poisonous snakes were this color, weren't they? Maybe the kid would grow up to be something.
For now, this was about research. "Get out there, and don't take it too seriously."
He looked at her a little confused, boredly bouncing his fists and snapping his electricity like it were some sort of bad habit. His plugs cackled for a moment. Regina's couldn't help but be reminded of the way the scourge had once attacked the generators that dark night a year ago.
"Jump onto it with a quick attack, and then knock it with a leer as you pass by."
The elekid, for an instant, looked sourly at its opponent. There was a hint of wretchedness in its pout, of disdain, perhaps real true dislike and anger - which Regina in her naivity had not caught onto. Not for long though. It launched itself into the arena to carry out the tactic like a boy hurling himself into a brawl.
note we have teams of six ofc, but for the sake of brevity, only one pokemon for this competition! closed after one person responds.
That elekid looked pretty dangerous if you asked Egan. Still, his harder, faster, louder style wasn't meant to be intimidated - bravery was one of the best traits he had; and he'd need it in ample amounts if he were to combat the whirring electric pokemon that seemed set for battle.
He pulled Pagoda's pokeball from his belt. The Spiritomb wasn't weak to anything, type wise, so that had to be an advantage, right? Egan sure hoped so. He released the pokemon onto the field of play without comment.
Pagoda seemed to flex itself, its spiritual body expanding and contracting, almost as if it were trying to escape the Odd Keystone to which it was bound. Almost. The scary expression etched onto its face - if you could call it that - locked on to its opponent, the Elekid. For a second it looked up at Egan, trying its hardest to look inquisitive - there was no lacking in confidence in the forbidden pokemon, for what it thought was a questioning visage emanated the thought 'is this it?'
Egan smirked.
"Don't be overconfident Pagoda, that Elekid looks something special,"
And with some unspoken signal, the battle commenced. The bonehead trainer heard the words quick attack, and with a small cloud of dust the Elekid zoomed towards his pokemon. Thinking fast, he said,
"Hold fast and use confuse ray!" The Spiritomb's eyes glowed a malevolent purple, and unleashed a ray of deep violet light directly in front of it. If the Elekid wished to get close, it'd have to deal with that first.
"Follow it up! Use pursuit to get at it!" Anticipating an attempt to dodge, Egan hoped that pursuit would be a failsafe move to get at least some damage on his opponent's pokemon.

The Spiritomb's sinister face bloomed on her camcorder's screen. A cruel humor bled from its mocking yellow eyes, and she peeked over the rim of her camera at the real thing. Creepy. The Pokedex scanned it's physical features, shivering for a couple moments into green static as if it couldn't function properly in the presence of paranormal activity.
"Dodge the ray!" she commanded, pushing up her big glasses The kid did as it was told, finding the speed of its attack of aid. It hopped aside of the bright little ball. But Regina's jaw tightened as her Elekid ran straight through the Spiritomb, the essence of it's body's purple haze trailing behind it as it burst out the other side, completely ineffectual.
The elekid skidded to a halt, it's eyes wide, it's little heart throbbing at the sensation of diving into ectoplasma. It made to turn around to face the Spiritomb, but was slammed by the pursuit throttled at it.
"Thundershock now! Don't let it scare you!" (spatk bonus) Regina shouted, putting away the dex. A ball of electricity crackled from the Elekid's plugs ready to strike. Meanwhile, she looked at the trainer across from her, perhaps meeting his eyes, and she grinned a little at the competition.
The quick attack was useless, passing straight through the forbidden pokemon. However, Elekid had managed to avoid the Spiritomb's confuse ray. Egan was smiling, but any such grin promptly disappeared from his face the moment he heard the command for thundershock. The move was carried out with such speed that the knucklehead trainer couldn't respond; the volts of electricity hurtled into the pokemon's ectoplasm, eliciting pain and screeching. The Spiritomb heaved, as if it were panting.
"Don't let them get away with that! Use spite, then let's try shadow sneak!" Ordered Egan. The Spiritomb called upon its occult powers, and began to glow with malevolent light as an orb of darkness launched itself from its mouth. If it hit, it would disable thundershock for a couple of moves - and in that time he had to seal the victory. Judging from Pagoda's response to the thundershock, another hit like that and she'd be knocked out cold.
Regardless of the spite's success, the Spiritomb moved forward with the plan. Its shadow extended forward, as if malleable, before rising up and lunging for the electric foe. It moved with intense speed as it moulded from Spiritomb's shadow to the silhouette of a fist, if it struck, it would send the elekid hurtling into the air - an uppercut from beyond, you could call it.
Egan looked up from the Spiritomb, a little interested to see just who was in charge of such a powerful little pokemon. He met the eyes of the opposing trainer - who apparently had been looking at him too. He smiled, just a little sheepishly, before speaking.
"After that thundershock, I'm not gonna give you a single yard! You'd better bring your A game too!"

"WOOO YEAH! Kiddo!" Regina shouted brightening. The elekid smiled back like he got this in his pocket -- but then, the electicity drained from his fists like a fire-fighter's hose running dry. The spite had drove the nail deep. He frowned and looked at his hands, trying to will the electricity out, but it would not come. While Amos was preoccupied by this mystery, he did not even glance behind at his shadow. The spiritomb lurked out, growing in mists behind him with a malevolent cheshire cat's grin. WHAM!! A hit! The Elekid was knocked down hard. He was beginning to get dizzy from all these punches. One more and he'd be out of this game.
Regina bit her lip, tucking her equipment away. "Get up, Kid. Fight him away from you! Give him a low blow - be keen!" She crossed her arms. Spite was a tactical move. Impressive.
"He's coming at you again Pagoda, so let's go, confuse ray!" Commanded Egan, who was beginning to feel the tide of battle move in his favour. All he had to do was land one last combo and the victory would totally be his! The Spiritomb nodded for a second, signalling that it had accepted and understood the order, before glowing that familiar malicious purple and unleashing a ray of light that would induce confusion in its foe.
"Use faint attack this time!" Remembering what had happened the last time he'd tried to confuse the pokemon, Egan instructed the forbidden pokemon to elicit a fail safe - if the odds were in his favour, if the elekid dodged the faint attack it would leave itself open to a crushing blow on its blind side. You had to admit, the knucklehead trainer had a bit of a knack for this.
"I've been chasing you into a corner, this is gonna be checkmate." He said to the opposing trainer, a grin on his face.

The bright light of the confuse ray, followed by the pursuing shadow slammed into Amos before Regina could think of a command. When the malevolent pokemon rose up in victory, the Elekid laid on it's back, see stars. Regina crossed her arms and recalled it, and muttered, "Oh well, maybe the next one."
She waved to the trainer across and shouted "Yeah, yah got me!"
