This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

even while it is closed down, the warehouse looks the same to stefan as it always has. he's explored this place thoroughly in his youth, although the wild pokemon population was nowhere near as high as it is said to be now. the building trades one kind of resident for another, and the difference is obvious in its upkeep. the glory days of the warehouse is past, but stefan prefers it this way. the smell of rot and rust welcome him with distant nostalgia. it makes him want to burn the place down, but he has never been particular to acts of anarchy. call it cleanup, if you will. knowing of the place's reputation, his pawniard stays by his side during this excursion. he remains unvaccinated, but stefan likes to think that he would have heard of any scourge outbreaks in the city. even if the residents aren't swallowing other sensationalist media, any news of scourge is prone to causing a nice little panic.
it's even unlikelier that his target is hiding out in a place like this, but stefan has taken it upon himself to investigate any possibility, even if it remains at a half percent. he can't stay long, but he can make sure that he does a through job, at least. gerfried serves as another pair of eyes, both for their prey and any wild encounters. it wouldn't do to be ambushed in a place like this. the alejandros would never let him live it down.
Perhaps the warehouse counted as the wrong part of town. Perhaps not. It looked safe enough to Neo--granted, that meant it looked safe enough to someone that'd trekked through Lake Pax and lived to talk about it.
She couldn't get the door open at first, but she put her shoulder into it, and Neo stumbled into the dark warehouse. "You are certain about this?" Neo asked.
The young gastly at her side cowered behind her, still outside the door in the bright sunlight.
A wave of suspicion came over Neo, and she didn't want to ask, but it had to be voiced, "Leto? ...Leto, tell me: are you scared of the dark?"
The level one pokemon peeked behind her and into the dark warehouse.
There was a sound. It could've been anything; it was probably the warehouse settling--it was an old building, after all.
The gastly screamed and disappeared into her pokeball for sweet refuge.
Neo sighed. "I thought you wanted to explore an environment native to your species, Leto. It is probably safe here, naught but rattatas about. Here, I will walk in, and you may come out of your pokeball whenever you are comfortable. Alright?"
With that, Neo boldly strode into the warehouse. The boldness was effected as she could hardly let the gastly see her on edge and wary for a scourge pokemon to jump out of the darkness at any moment. "See, Leto? All is well."

Snow flicked up into the pale beams, like dust, this white, cold powder. The two skittered around the warehouse, every now and then crashing into things, toppling crates down, rolling around, tackling each other like kittens, these old friends. The snow was their ballet. They rolled in it like a kip in mud. They found the warehouse a blast as they zipped around playing tag.
The presence of the humans did not bother them at first. However, the swinub paused in his game. A trainer stood at the very center of the old loading bay, looking around like a tourist. While the snorunt held back, hiding behind some crates, the swinub cautiously approached to smell the boy's feet with odor sleuth. "Swiiiiiiin?" queried its gruff voice.
Trying to find a better view to watch his friend inspect the human, the snorunt dismissed his hiding place and ran out a small, broken hole at the bottom of the abandoned warehouse's wall. Fear struck the cautious pokemon as he ran straight into a pawniard. Afraid from this sudden encounter for a shy pokemon, he attempted to bite the pawniard.
stefan turns around at the scuffling of small feet, but the pawniard reacts rather lazily to the pain after the initial shock. not that it amounted to much, considering the blessings that his typing has bestowed him. while gerfried is usually rather paitient for a pawniard, stefan definately sees a problem with a snorunt who bites first before asking questions later. gerfried takes a furtive glance at his trainer while the snorunt's teeth are still latched onto his arm.
the trainer merely nods as he takes several steps back from the combatants. even if the snorunt wasn't preoccupied, stefan would hardly want to get in the way of the pawniard's blades. gerfried leers unpleasantly at the creature before him before aiming a fury cutter, point-blank.
maybe kaiser is the better pokemon to tackle this particular job, but stefan doesn't really want to risk burning down the warehouse. he's not quite sure of the charmander's strength just yet, and this doesn't seem like the best place to test him. all he can do is hope that this encounter will end quickly. admin, cold volume
Neo heard the sound of a battle. She was about to apologize to Leto because clearly all was not quite well, but instead she kept her mouth shut. Immediately, she went to the shadows, her previous boldness replaced by stealth.
Battling pokemon! Excellent. Her pokedex would be most pleased.
Neo stepped closer to the action, attempting to remain silent and unobtrusive as she pointed her pokedex at the snorunt first. The pokedex sprang to life, glowing and beeping before a digital voice started to loudly say "Snorunt survives by eating--" before Neo finally fumbled the silent switch on.
Her position given away and stealth thrown aside, she also pointed the pokedex at Gerfried, and the pokedex dutifully recorded the pawniard entry as well.

The Swinub followed Neo to the shadows, sneaking behind her. The human creature must have not noticed it at all! Finding a mud puddle behind her, he began to play! Maybe that would get her attention. He began to fling mud every which way! If Neo didn't get out of the way, she would become a mud monster!
The fury cutter hit the Snorut hard, and the Pawniard sliced a terrible gash in the poor pokemon's black skin. The Snorunt rolled away and sat down, clutching the bleeding wound. It shot an angry leer at the Pawniard, and began to bide its time.
The Swinub froze upon seeing its best friend hurt!! Giving up its mud sport on the trainer, it whizzed over to its friend's defense. It's scream of protective rage knocked the icicles down. It picked one up and began to stab at the vicious, horrible Pawniard.
stefan almost jumps at the sudden digitized sound - almost. instead, he retrieves alexander's pokeball and orders the murkrow to nail the presence with a pursuit - whatever's there, he or she wouldn't escape so easily. he doesn't take his eyes off of the wild snorunt, but he wouldn't have to. alexander is a reliable partner in such situations.
the trainer isn't quite sure what the snorunt is doing; he has only watched a handful of battle simulations, but that hardly matters. either way, gerfried needs to finish him off quickly so that the other can be dealt with. "finish it."
the pawniard crosses its arms, pressing down upon the snorunt with his second fury cutter with increasing power.
the situation then spirals quickly out of control - there are too many enemies emerging at once, and not even stefan can do much when the pawniard is assaulted by multiple icicles. save at least one pokemon for his eventual escape - that is the only rule that stefan has in these situations. it would be a shame to lose an ally, certainly, but his success in his mission is not negotiable. gerfried manages to dodge the last few assaults, but the battle is wearing down on its stamina. admincold volume

Oh boy, what a crazy foray this had become!! Snow and dirt flung everywhere and all over the place! The wild pokemon were used to it and decided that maybe all these pokemon wanted to run around the warehouse too just like they had been doing before! Snorunt nodded to swinub. Obviously it was a game of tag and everyone was chasing the Murkrow!! There was a Scraggy leaping up at it with flaming fists, and solo trying to roll into it -- should they stop the competitors, or go straight for the prize. (Jesus, these guys played rough!)
With a leap of its short leg, the Swinub tackled the solosis to knock it out of the way for the quarterback, SEXY SNORUNT BRADY in his pretty grass skirt. The little black doll ran as fast as it could, pulling a double team, he leapt up at the mukrow and unleashed his bide!
the gravity of the situation bears down on stefan, and he realizes that if he doesn't end things now, then there won't be a later fight to escape from. he bites his lip and tells himself that escape is his best course of action at the moment, but that’s his vaccinated murkrow out there. does he run? does he fight? does he leave now and hope that more vaccines are available?
the murkrow dodges the confuse ray on sight, untrusting of any strange light that the solosis would conjure. rollout hits him in the tail, but thankfully the solosis’ soft gel makes the attack less painful than it would usually be. the sand attack is more frightening, but it is negated with alexander’s haze, which pours over both the sand and the double team. the situation is utterly bedlam, but the murkrow holds his ground.
behind them, stefan bites his lip until it bleeds. for those few seconds, he chooses one priority over another. he grabs kaiser’s pokeball and tells him, “plan four, now”
in front of him is a fist of flame, while behind him is the light at the end of the tunnel. before he has to face either, however, he is taken back into the safety of his pokeball.
the charmander is shaken at the sight of the number of foes, but stefan’s order overrides his current concerns. he fills the room with a smokescreen, putrid and opaque - it’s a wonder how anyone can even breathe in there. stefan covers his mouth with his sleeve, withdrawing gerfried but leaving the charmander by his side. kaiser is less affected by the smoke, and there is no telling what they might meet on their way out.
they run. stefan backtracks, while the charmander tries his best to follow him. there is no shame in stefan’s mind for escaping, but the regret of not attaining much information lingers. was the girl that he had seen a regular of the warehouse? he would have to ask around and investigate later. if they want to give chase, then they are welcome to a mouthful of soot.
(.5+.5=1 wild pokemon level to each combatant, 1+1=2 trainer levels for each combatant amirite. this counts as neo’s win, so yeah. good luck with those wild mons )
New Entry Sense Tingling! Her pokedex was out like a reflex, despite her anger, and the pokedex--silent now--happily read out the details of the Charmander.
Neo watched the trainer beat feet. Well, not a very good trainer, was he? With some measured, restrained amount of glee, she watched the pecky murkrow flee the scene. <Feared and loathed by many, it is believed to bring misfortune to all those who see it at night.>
She turned her attention now to the wild pokemon now that the trainer was gone. "Phoebe, continue the roll-out. Themis, fire punch."
It was a lean and mean football game by now and the fire punch and roll out did their job. Swinub and snorunt fell to flame and earth, and they moaned a little dazed in their pile of snow. They'd probably wake up tomorrow with terrible headaches, too sore to play tag.
