This world is inhabited by creatures that we call pokemon. People and pokemon live together by supporting each other, but now the scourge threatens the safety of the entire region. Kohaku has become a dangerous place, where children stay at home and only brave souls go adventuring.
Welcome to KOHAKU. Come for the nightmares. Stay for the tea and crumpets.
The season is SUMMER. It is easy for survivors to forage for food from the land, as there are entire abandoned farms ready for harvest. On the downside, you can smell the corpses.

if anything, the island of dreams was convenient; it meant she did not have to spend time traveling back and forth between places, battling and battling and hopefully coming across a pokemon she wanted. (wading through waves of rattata and pidgey was not her idea of a good time, after all.)
the tiny, green bud pokemon cooed in her arms at the sight of the sparkling water. delilah chuckled, gently patting the budew's head. it was a sweet pokemon, she knew; it made her almost not want to train her.
but this world was full of scourge, and delilah knew she couldn't afford to take that risk.
the spheal had been rolling along the coast of the sea, taking in the sunshine that the dream world afforded them. so far, the beach seems devoid of many other pokemon, but that's just how he likes it. there's more room for himself, then! he curls into a defense curl and continues exploring.
just then, he spots a trainer and a budew in her arms. it's been a while since he's spotted anything but magikarp around, and the spheal is beside himself with excitement.
maybe a little too excited. as soon as he rolls into range, he greets them with a powder snow, thinking that they could use a bit of chill after all this sun.
WILD SPHEAL
level 10 male ability: oblivious defense curl, powder snow, growl, water gun, encore, yawn
the first thing she notices is the frigid wind; then a blast of ice crystals find their ways onto her and her pokemon. sitri cries out as the chill bites into her fragile skin, huddling against her trainer. a cursory scan of their surroundings brings a rotund, blue-and-white ball pokemon to her attention.
delilah scowls. (of all things, it's an ice pokemon.)
carefully shielding the trembling sitri with her coat, she releases her sableye. "agares, go," the woman commands. "leer and scratch." with a menacing glint in his crystalline eyes, the pokemon raises his arm and sprints toward the spheal, attempting to bring his clawed hands down upon the wild pokemon.
after all that exercise, the spheal feels quite drowsy, especially under the afternoon sun. he lets out a yawn, only to be met with a sharp leer and an unpleasant claw in the face. that was really rather impolite! even after the spheal had tried to welcome them to sparkling sea!
or maybe they were just shy and easily spooked. that could be a possibility as well. ice isn't too common around these parts. maybe he should have been more supportive. the spheal bounces up and down as he delivers an encore for the sableye, temporarily forgetting that it would mean another painful hit to the face.
WILD SPHEAL

the sableye returns the yawn, causing delilah to sigh. (these pokemon are near hopeless.) "scratch again!" she calls out, as if the sableye is capable of doing anything else. the woman shakes her head -- this is going to be very, very frustrating.
quietly obeying orders, agares stiffens both of his claws and begins to swipe through the air at the spheal.rd the spheal, attempting to bring his clawed hands down upon the wild pokemon.
notes agares (sableye) used scratch. (i'm sorry i'm rly tired)
the spheal isn't quite sharp enough to try dodging the incoming attack, and the scratch hurts. he falls backwards and rolls along the ground like a beach ball, its defense curl adding more cushion. this isn't fun anymore, but he did use the encore. maybe the sableye will cool off its head after a bout of powder snow.
that's what the spheal thinks, anyway

stumbling, the sableye rolls out of the way of the oncoming, miniature snowstorm -- the freezing wind sweeps across the area, and delilah once again shields her budew. sitri wails once more, and delilah hopes the sableye can at least hold out for a little while longer.
"scratch again!" she says, and the pokemon -- moving sluggishly from apparent, uncharacteristic exhaustion -- to rake his claws across the spheal's body. after his attempt, however, the sableye staggers backward.
delilah groaned. (goddamned yawn!)
notes agares (sableye) used scratch, then fell asleep.
the spheal was so high-winded that he doesn't even notice when his stamina finally breaks at the last scratch. his body rolls along the seaside for the last time before coming to a stop before a rock. well, he's had his fun. he just...needs a bit of a rest before he gets going again. if only this girl and her pokemon could wait, maybe they could...play again..sometime.
spheal sleeps with the cool winds against his backside.

WILD SPHEAL
level 10 male ability: oblivious defense curl, powder snow, growl, water gun, encore, yawn
the battered sableye snoozes on the ground, and -- judging by the way sitri is sniffling -- it doesn't seem as if her pokemon have any desire to battle any more. with a sigh, she pulls out a gleaming pokeball and tosses it lightly at the unconscious spheal.
may as well make it up to the poor pokemon sometime in the future.
notes other than her throwing the pokeball ... lefin?
